National Insurance Corporation (NIC)
The National Insurance Corporation (NIC) is the oldest insurance company in Tanzania, established in 1963. Originally a joint venture between the government and international partners, it was fully nationalized in 1967 and remained the sole insurer in the country for nearly 30 years. Following the liberalization of the industry in 1996, NIC transitioned into a competitive state-owned enterprise. Today, it is the largest insurer in Tanzania, offering a comprehensive range of life and non-life insurance products. NIC has recently undergone a significant digital transformation, resulting in a 43% increase in premiums through digitized services. The corporation operates a vast network across the country, serving over 200 companies and thousands of individual policyholders with a strong focus on innovation and agile customer service.
