Job Description

People Project Co Limited is recruiting on behalf of a growing mining company in Tanzania for an experienced Senior Geologist to lead geological exploration, resource definition, and grade control activities. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across exploration programmes, geological interpretation, drilling supervision, resource evaluation, and geological data management.

The position is suitable for an experienced geologist with strong gold exploration and mining geology expertise. The role requires someone capable of working in operational and potentially remote environments while coordinating exploration teams, drilling contractors, technical specialists, and other stakeholders to support mineral resource development and mine operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise geological mapping, sampling, trenching, exploration drilling, and resource development programmes.

  • Develop geological interpretations, exploration models, and drilling targets.

  • Design exploration strategies to identify and evaluate mineralization opportunities.

  • Monitor exploration activities and recommend improvements based on geological findings.

  • Supervise Reverse Circulation (RC), Diamond drilling, and other exploration drilling activities.

  • Coordinate drilling contractors to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.

  • Ensure proper core logging, sample logging, photography, storage, sample handling, and chain-of-custody procedures.

  • Monitor drilling productivity, sample recovery, and geological data quality.

  • Analyze geological, geochemical, geophysical, structural, and assay data.

  • Develop and maintain geological models, maps, cross-sections, and 3D models.

  • Support mineral resource estimation, mine planning, and grade control activities.

  • Reconcile geological models with production and processing results to improve operational performance.

  • Design and manage sampling programmes in accordance with industry best practices.

  • Implement and maintain effective Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures.

  • Prepare technical reports, exploration updates, budgets, work programmes, and management presentations.

  • Maintain geological records suitable for technical audits, resource reporting, and future project development.

  • Ensure exploration activities comply with health and safety standards, environmental requirements, statutory regulations, and company policies.

  • Maintain compliance with exploration licences and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct field inspections, risk assessments, and safety briefings.

  • Identify geological risks and recommend appropriate technical investigations.

  • Prepare exploration budgets, work plans, and resource forecasts.

  • Monitor project expenditure and identify opportunities for cost optimization.

  • Prepare performance reports and operational updates.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop junior geologists, field technicians, sampling teams, and drilling personnel.

  • Coordinate with surveyors, laboratory teams, mining engineers, environmental specialists, consultants, regulators, and community relations teams.

  • Promote safety, technical excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related geoscience discipline.

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in mineral exploration, mining geology, or resource development.

  • Proven experience in gold exploration, particularly structurally controlled or greenstone-hosted deposits.

  • Experience managing exploration drilling programmes involving RC and Diamond drilling.

  • Strong knowledge of geological mapping, sampling techniques, QA/QC protocols, geological modelling, and exploration data management.

  • Experience supporting mineral resource estimation, grade control, and mine planning activities.

  • Proficiency in geological modelling software, GIS applications, and industry-standard geological tools.

  • Ability to interpret geological, geochemical, structural, geophysical, and assay data.

  • Strong technical expertise in mineral exploration and geological interpretation.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.

  • Excellent planning and project management skills.

  • High attention to detail and strong geological data management capabilities.

  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Ability to work independently in remote operational environments.

  • Professional registration with a recognized geological or engineering body is an added advantage.
