Exploration Geological Technician at Barrick – Bulyanhulu Gold Mine

Barrick’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is inviting applications from qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Exploration Geological Technician. This full-time opportunity is based in Shinyanga and offers the chance to work alongside experienced geologists and engineers in one of Tanzania’s leading gold mining operations.

The successful candidate will provide technical and field support for exploration and geological activities, including sampling, geological mapping, drilling support, laboratory preparation, database management, and quality assurance. This role is ideal for individuals with practical mining or exploration experience who are passionate about geology and field operations.

Responsibilities include:

• Collect, label, prepare, and process geological samples.
• Assist geologists with geological mapping, field surveys, and site investigations.
• Record and maintain geological, sampling, and drilling data in databases and spreadsheets.
• Support core photography, sample preparation, and dispatch of samples to laboratories.
• Carry out routine laboratory and field testing in accordance with approved procedures.
• Monitor drilling activities and maintain accurate drilling progress timesheets.
• Assist with geological and geotechnical investigations and exploration field programs.
• Verify data for accuracy and completeness before submission.
• Insert and track certified reference materials, blanks, and duplicate samples for QA/QC purposes.
• Operate and maintain geological equipment including pXRF, TerraSpec, GPS, and other geological instruments.
• Support additional geological activities assigned by the Senior or Project Geologist.

Qualifications Required:

• 2–3 years of relevant experience as a Geological Technician or in a similar geological or mining role.
• Good knowledge of basic geology, mineralogy, rock types, and geological structures.
• Understanding of QA/QC procedures and chain-of-custody requirements.
• Experience in geological mapping and field data collection.
• Experience maintaining geological databases, records, and sampling information.
• Familiarity with laboratory sample preparation and sample submission procedures.
• Previous experience working on mine sites or exploration projects is an added advantage.
• Good computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong observation, analytical, and data-entry skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and effectively within a team.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
