Absa Bank Limited is seeking a Specialist – Collections Strategy Analyst to join its team in Johannesburg. This is an analytical role focused on collections strategy optimisation, portfolio management, credit risk, data analysis and debt sale activities. The successful candidate will use analytical expertise to identify portfolio trends, improve collections strategies and support effective credit risk management.
The role is particularly suited to candidates with a background in mathematics, statistics, engineering, business management and informatics, or a related quantitative discipline. Strong SAS and data-analysis capabilities are important, as the position involves working with large datasets, producing management information and turning complex data into practical recommendations.
Responsibilities

Develop and implement data-driven collections strategies aligned with portfolio objectives.

Maintain an in-depth understanding of portfolio performance, key drivers and risk factors.

Monitor collections performance, impairments and factors affecting portfolio outcomes.

Implement documented collections strategies and policies.
-
Conduct credit risk assessments and reviews for business-as-usual processes and strategies.

Identify gaps in existing collections strategies and recommend practical solutions.

Research portfolio performance and interrogate data to identify opportunities for strategy improvement.

Embed approved improvements into collections strategies.
-
Manage business-as-usual, ad-hoc and automated processes efficiently.

Produce management information and analytical insights within agreed service-level requirements.

Source, clean, validate and consolidate large datasets.

Apply advanced SAS skills to perform data analysis and processing.

Identify trends, anomalies and other patterns that can support business decisions.

Ensure collections strategies comply with the bank's credit risk policies and applicable legislation.

Support audit, governance and compliance processes.

Monitor regulatory developments affecting collections and debt sales.

Investigate exceptions and provide detailed feedback in accordance with governance requirements.

Present analytical findings and strategic recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Manage competing priorities while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have:

A Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Business Management and Informatics (BMI), or a related field.

2–3 years of experience in financial services, which will be advantageous.

Advanced SAS skills.

Practical experience in data analysis and data processing.

Strong understanding of collections and credit risk management.

Knowledge of impairments and their key drivers.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent attention to detail.

Ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly.
