Job Description

Absa Bank Limited is inviting applications for the position of Desktop Claims Validator (Buildings) in Johannesburg. This role is suited to an experienced short-term insurance claims professional with strong knowledge of building repairs, claims validation, policy conditions and settlement procedures. The successful candidate will work remotely to assess building-related insurance claims and ensure that claims are accurately evaluated and processed in accordance with established requirements.

The Desktop Claims Validator will review assessor reports, photographs, quotations, invoices and other supporting documentation to determine the validity and value of claims. The position also requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to identify discrepancies or potential fraud indicators while maintaining efficient claims turnaround times.

Responsibilities

  • Validate building insurance claims in accordance with policy terms and conditions.

  • Review assessor reports, photographs, quotations and other supporting documentation.

  • Assess the accuracy and reasonableness of repair and replacement costs.

  • Identify inconsistencies, discrepancies and potential fraud indicators.

  • Ensure claims meet required quality, compliance and processing standards.

  • Provide recommendations regarding claim approval, rejection or settlement.

  • Liaise with assessors, contractors, service providers, brokers and policyholders.

  • Maintain accurate claim records, notes and supporting information on claims systems.

  • Ensure claims are processed within agreed turnaround times and service level agreements.

  • Review building repair and maintenance information to support accurate claims decisions.

  • Apply knowledge of policy wording and claims procedures when assessing settlement recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric.

  • A relevant Short-Term Insurance qualification, which will be advantageous.

  • FAIS accreditation, which will be advantageous.

  • A certificate or qualification in Construction, Building Science, Quantity Surveying or a related field, which will be advantageous.

  • 3–5 years of experience in Short-Term Insurance Claims.

  • Experience in building claims validation or claims assessment.

  • Knowledge of residential and commercial building repairs and maintenance.

  • Experience validating quotations, invoices, assessor reports and claims documentation.

  • Understanding of policy wordings and claims settlement procedures.

  • Strong analytical and investigative skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Sound decision-making abilities.

  • Knowledge of building construction and repair processes.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Computer literacy and experience working with claims systems.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.

Experience in property or building claims within the Short-Term Insurance industry will be an added advantage. Exposure to loss adjusting or building assessment environments will also be beneficial.
