AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania is seeking a highly experienced Specialist Trainer, Underground Equipment to support the development of underground drilling operators and trainers at Geita Gold Mine. The successful candidate will be responsible for training, assessing, coaching, and mentoring underground equipment operators and trainers while ensuring compliance with safety standards, OEM requirements, and production objectives. The role will play a critical part in developing operator competence, identifying skill gaps, and supporting succession planning within underground mining operations.

Responsibilities

• Train and assess employees on Jumbo (Drift Drill Rig) operations.
• Develop existing drill rig operators through coaching and on-the-job training to achieve advanced operator competency.
• Train operators on Jumbo/Drift Drill, Cable Bolter, Solo/Long-Hole Drill, and In-The-Hole (ITH) Drill equipment.
• Provide on-the-job coaching and mentorship to Underground Shift Bosses and Shift Trainers.
• Ensure operators comply with safety requirements and OEM operating standards while achieving production targets.
• Coach and develop national trainers to achieve specialist-level training competencies.
• Develop, review, and update training modules, training materials, and training plans for underground mining equipment.
• Review and enforce the company training calendar and underground training matrix schedules.
• Implement development plans for trainees and identify potential national successors.
• Monitor trainee performance and provide regular feedback on development progress.
• Prepare training reports and succession development reports.
• Coordinate and administer underground drilling equipment training programs.
• Monitor and control all training activities within the Underground Drilling Equipment section.
• Conduct operator skill gap assessments and competency evaluations.
• Develop and implement training plans to address identified competency gaps.
• Provide technical guidance on proper equipment operation in accordance with OEM standards.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives within underground training programs.
• Ensure compliance with the Tanzania Labour Act and company training and development policies.
• Support charging and blasting training activities where applicable.
• Promote ethical behavior and adherence to company training standards at all times.
• Maintain proper use and care of company equipment and resources.
• Execute assigned duties within approved budgets and timelines.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Comply with company policies, procedures, and operational requirements.

Qualifications

• Recognized Training and Assessment Certificate.
• Recognized Certificate in Jumbo (Sandvik DD421 or higher models) operation.
• Certificate of Secondary Education or higher qualification.
• Certificate in Underground Mine Blasting from a recognized institution.
• Certificate in Cable Bolter (Sandvik) and In-The-Hole (ITH) Drill operation will be an added advantage.
• Licensed and certified Jumbo Operator.
• Minimum of eight years of practical experience operating Jumbo drilling equipment in underground mining environments.
• Experience in mechanical scaling, ground support installation, and drilling development drives, strips, inclines, and declines.
• Minimum of two years’ experience as a Jumbo Trainer, Shift Trainer, or On-the-Job Coach.
• Experience in underground charging and blasting activities.
• Strong knowledge of underground mining operations and production processes.
• Leadership and supervisory experience will be an added advantage.
• Experience working with multicultural teams and diverse work environments.
• Experience operating Cable Bolters and In-The-Hole (ITH) Drills is desirable.
• Valid Driving Licence Class B/D and G/F or international equivalent.
• Knowledge of Tanzanian mining legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to operate Jumbo equipment according to OEM standards.
• Ability to read and interpret mine instructions, geotechnical designs, and operational plans.
• Competence in performing basic operator maintenance on Jumbo equipment.
• Ability to safely operate manual transmission vehicles in underground environments.
• Strong skills in training delivery, competency assessment, and operator skill-gap analysis.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and emotional intelligence skills.
• Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Basic operational knowledge of Cable Bolter, Solo, and ITH drilling equipment.
