Introduction
Jaza Energy is recruiting qualified and technically skilled candidates for the position of Solar Commissioning Technician based in Geita, Tanzania. The organization is seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented technician who will support the commissioning of new solar energy service locations across multiple regions. The role is critical in ensuring that newly deployed sites are fully operational, properly configured, and meet required technical and quality standards.
The Solar Commissioning Technician will be responsible for installing, testing, configuring, and verifying solar PV systems at new sites before activation. The role supports Jaza’s expansion strategy by ensuring technical readiness, minimizing rework, and maintaining high standards of system reliability, safety, and performance across all commissioned locations.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the commissioning process for assigned solar sites
- Ensure full compliance with commissioning procedures and technical standards
- Install solar PV equipment at newly approved service locations
- Manage deployment and usage of tools and commissioning equipment
- Ensure 100% connectivity and operational readiness of commissioned sites
- Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and repairs of solar systems before activation
- Verify system functionality and readiness prior to site commissioning
- Maintain a commissioning rework rate of 5% or less
- Implement technical quality control measures across all sites
- Identify and escalate technical issues affecting system performance or quality
- Complete and submit quality assurance checklists for all commissioned sites
- Configure new sites within operational systems (Star App, Dashboard, Dataverse)
- Provide regular progress reports on commissioning activities
- Document commissioned sites, rework rates, and equipment utilization
- Track inventory and technical tools used during commissioning
- Ensure accurate technical documentation and record keeping
- Escalate unresolved technical issues to relevant teams
- Support compliance with company technical and safety standards
Qualifications
- Knowledge and practical skills in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Experience in Solar PV installation, design, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Understanding of solar energy systems and commissioning processes
- Experience with electrical repairs and technical troubleshooting
- Knowledge of battery systems, including lithium-ion technology and BMS
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot battery and system faults
- Awareness of health and safety procedures in electrical environments
- Ability to work safely with electrical and technical equipment
- Willingness to work in rural and remote areas across Tanzania
- Ability to travel frequently and work under minimal supervision
- Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong attention to detail and quality control mindset
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
- Strong time management and project execution ability
- Basic inventory management and documentation skills

- The position is based in Geita, Tanzania, with possible deployment across multiple regions including Dodoma, Mwanza, Bariadi, Kigoma, Tanga, Mbeya, and Morogoro
