AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania is seeking a qualified and safety-conscious Tradesperson 1 - Underground Plant Fitter Mechanics to join its Underground Engineering Department in Geita. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out preventive, planned, breakdown, and installation maintenance activities on underground mining infrastructure and equipment while ensuring compliance with safety standards, operational requirements, and engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations and company safety standards at all times.
• Identify, assess, and control workplace risks and hazards.
• Report unsafe conditions and take appropriate corrective actions.
• Perform mechanical inspections, repairs, servicing, and maintenance of underground plant equipment.
• Execute preventive, planned, and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with work instructions and OEM specifications.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and perform breakdown repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
• Maintain and repair centrifugal pumps, submersible pumps, mono pumps, gearboxes, fans, pump stations, and compressors.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and company standards.
• Participate in audits, inspections, and compliance assessments as required.
• Communicate maintenance progress, challenges, and equipment status to supervisors.
• Report defective tools, equipment, and maintenance resources promptly.
• Complete Take 5 risk assessments before commencing assigned tasks.
• Support maintenance scheduling and work planning activities.
• Ensure assigned work is completed within established deadlines and quality standards.
• Contribute ideas for continuous improvement in maintenance practices and operational efficiency.
• Maintain good timekeeping, discipline, and professional conduct.
• Keep accurate maintenance records and documentation as required.

Qualifications

• Form IV Secondary Education Certificate.
• VETA Qualification Grade I or Level Three in a relevant trade.
• Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in manufacturing, mining, or a related industrial environment.
• Practical experience working with centrifugal pumps, submersible pumps, mono pumps, gearboxes, fans, compressors, and pump stations.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from plant technical manuals and engineering drawings.
• Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic computer systems.
• Specialized equipment training relevant to underground mining operations is an added advantage.
• Valid Tanzania Driving Licence Class D or higher will be an added advantage.
• Strong troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving skills.
• Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated leadership potential and initiative.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in demanding underground mining environments.
• Physically and mentally fit for underground mining operations.
