Remittance Officer
Full Job Description
Division: Digital and Transaction Banking
Department: Digital Banking
Reports to: Head of Digital & Transaction Banking
The Remittance Officer will be responsible for driving the growth of remittance volumes and revenues in line with the bank’s sales targets. The role focuses on ensuring appropriate policies, processes, partnerships, and resources are in place to maximize returns from remittance and digital banking products while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Business Development
- Develop and execute product plans to support remittance and other digital banking products.
- Identify and implement innovative revenue-generating services.
- Drive promotion and reward campaigns to increase adoption and usage of remittance products.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Establish strong relationships with branch business teams to achieve branch remittance targets.
- Recruit sub-agents for remittance products to increase cash pickup points and customer reach.
Performance Monitoring and Analytics
- Monitor market trends and changes in remittance services to maintain competitiveness and align with customer preferences.
- Conduct monthly analysis of products and pricing to ensure competitiveness within the industry.
- Monitor customer complaints and improve processes to ensure simple, reliable, and efficient products and services.
Communication and Training
- Train and guide staff involved in remittance operations in line with the bank’s training framework.
- Prepare and publish detailed product information guides including product features, functions, positioning, and pricing.
- Conduct training programs for all recruited sub-agents.
Research and Development
- Support planning processes for new remittance product features and initiatives.
- Work closely with sales, IT, and operations teams to identify future product enhancements.
- Develop digital and remittance sales plans to drive growth in transaction volumes and revenues.
- Identify products that do not meet market or customer segment needs and develop transition or improvement plans.
- Ensure all stakeholders are involved in product development and that appropriate Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are in place for existing and new products.
Regulatory and Compliance
- Ensure familiarity with all bank policies and operational processes.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and global best practices.
- Coordinate with business, IT, and operations teams to ensure adequate testing before product releases to production.
- Ensure prompt resolution of issues raised in audit reports, management letters, or regulator reports.
- Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors.
Key Performance Indicators
- Product penetration.
- Implementation of business development plans.
- Growth in remittance revenue.
- Quality of customer service delivery.
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification.
- MBA, Master’s Degree, or relevant professional qualification will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience in Banking, Microfinance, or Payment Systems.
Knowledge
- In-depth understanding of the business environment and digital banking products.
- Knowledge of fraud prevention and operational risk management.
- Revenue assurance and product management knowledge.
- Regulatory and legal knowledge related to banking and payment systems.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong business development and sales skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
