Job Description

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited is seeking a Management Accountant to join its Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. The position will support the Senior Management Accountant by providing accurate financial analysis, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control insights for a large-scale gold mining operation.

The role is particularly important in helping mine management understand operational costs and financial performance. The successful candidate will work closely with mining, processing, maintenance, supply chain, and other operational teams to identify cost drivers, monitor performance, improve efficiency, and support sound financial decision-making.

Management Reporting and Analysis

  • Assist in preparing monthly management accounts for the mine site.

  • Prepare P&L, cost-centre reports, variance analysis, and management commentary.

  • Analyse costs associated with production, processing, maintenance, and support functions.

  • Identify cost trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Maintain standard-cost and unit-cost models, including cost per tonne mined, cost per tonne milled, and cost per ounce produced.

  • Work with mining, processing, and supply-chain teams to understand operational cost drivers.

  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and scenario modelling.

  • Produce decision-support reports for management.

Budgeting, Forecasting and Planning

  • Participate in the annual site budgeting process.

  • Support preparation of operating and capital budgets.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly rolling forecasts for costs, production, and cash flow.

  • Incorporate operational plans and market assumptions into forecasts.

  • Review and challenge budget and forecast assumptions.

  • Ensure budgets and forecasts align with mine plans and corporate guidelines.

  • Analyse actual results against budgets and forecasts.

  • Provide explanations for variances and recommend corrective actions.

Cost Control and Performance Management

  • Implement and maintain effective cost-control frameworks.

  • Support cost allocation methodologies and cost-centre structures.

  • Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and authorised spending.

  • Ensure compliance with company financial policies.

  • Support operations in developing and monitoring productivity, efficiency, and cost KPIs.

  • Identify cost-saving and efficiency-improvement opportunities across mining, processing, maintenance, GRA, and support functions.

  • Participate in operational reviews and improvement projects.

  • Support initiatives such as fleet optimisation, maintenance planning, and energy-usage management.

Capital Projects and Asset Management

  • Provide financial analysis for capital expenditure proposals.

  • Evaluate capital projects using financial measures such as NPV, IRR, and payback.

  • Monitor capital project budgets against actual expenditure.

  • Support work-in-progress reconciliations.

  • Participate in project close-out reviews.

  • Support asset life-of-mine planning.

  • Assist with sustaining-capital forecasting alongside technical teams.

Compliance, Governance and Internal Controls

  • Ensure financial activities comply with company policies.

  • Apply IFRS/IAS and relevant financial reporting requirements.

  • Support compliance with Tanzanian regulatory requirements.

  • Assist with internal and external audits.

  • Provide information requested by auditors.

  • Support resolution of audit findings.

  • Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Ensure appropriate reconciliations, approvals, and documentation are maintained.

  • Assist in improving financial systems, processes, and procedures.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Work closely with the Senior Management Accountant to provide financial insight.

  • Collaborate with mining, processing, maintenance, supply chain, and other operational teams.

  • Present financial and operational performance information to site leadership.

  • Explain complex financial information in clear, non-technical language.

  • Support management in making data-driven operational and financial decisions.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.

  • Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent is preferred.

  • At least 5 years of post-qualification experience in management accounting or financial analysis.

  • Experience in the mining industry, preferably gold mining, is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in the heavy industry or resources sector is also desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and management reporting.

  • Experience working in a large and complex organisation.

  • Familiarity with the Tanzanian tax and regulatory environment is an advantage.

  • Strong financial and analytical skills.

  • Ability to interpret and explain financial variances and trends.

  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, standard costing, and activity-based costing.

  • Proficiency in ERP and accounting systems such as SAP, Pronto, or Sage.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Business Intelligence (BI) tools experience is an advantage.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to understand the wider business picture.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a remote or site-based environment.

  • High ethical standards and integrity.

Working Conditions

This is a site-based position at the Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. The role may involve a roster or residential arrangement according to company policy and regular interaction with mine operations, including pit, processing plant, maintenance, and logistics areas.

The position may also require extended working hours during month-end reporting, budgeting cycles, and major project deadlines.

About Nyanzaga Gold Project

The Nyanzaga Gold Project is Perseus Mining's planned gold operation in Tanzania, located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields. A Final Investment Decision was made in April 2025, with first gold production targeted for early 2027.

The project places emphasis on sustainability and local development, including employment, skills training, infrastructure development, and long-term social programmes. Once operational, Nyanzaga is expected to become an important part of Perseus Mining's growth in East Africa.
