Job Description

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited is looking for an experienced Senior Mine Geologist to lead Grade Control (GC) activities at its open-pit gold mining operation in Mwanza. The position focuses on ensuring accurate geological information is available for short-term mine planning, ore and waste delineation, and efficient mining operations.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in grade control drilling, geological modelling, sampling, QA/QC, database management, and mine-to-mill reconciliation. The role also involves supervising Mine Geologists and GC Technicians and ensuring that geological activities are conducted safely and accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Promote site safety standards and oversee implementation of JHAs and SOPs.

  • Identify geological hazards within mining pits and enforce safe field practices.

  • Supervise, assign duties to, and train Mine Geologists and Grade Control Technicians.

  • Oversee geological logging, wireframing, sampling QA/QC, and database management.

  • Plan and supervise Reverse Circulation (RC) grade-control drilling programmes.

  • Oversee blast-hole sampling and maintain proper chain-of-custody procedures.

  • Manage QA/QC processes, including blanks, duplicates, and repeats.

  • Update mineralization wireframes and short-range grade-control block models.

  • Support ore mark-ups, short-term mine planning, and dilution control.

  • Issue ore polygons and dig plans to Mining and Survey teams.

  • Help prevent ore loss during mining operations.

  • Guide ROM pad and stockpile management.

  • Define NAF/PAF criteria to support correct waste-dump routing.

  • Validate, load, and audit drilling, sampling, logging, and assay data.

  • Maintain the integrity of the central geological database.

  • Lead mine-to-mill and grade-control-to-mined reconciliations.

  • Analyse tonnage and grade variances.

  • Track dilution and ore loss.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly technical reports and summaries.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.

  • 3–5 years of experience in open-pit mine geology and grade control.

  • Gold mining experience is preferred.

  • Membership in a recognised geology or mining professional body is desirable.

  • A valid driver’s licence suitable for manual vehicles and open-pit mine-site conditions.

  • Proficiency in short-range block modelling.

  • Experience with grade-control wireframing software.

  • Experience using geological database management systems.

  • Strong understanding of geological sampling and QA/QC protocols.
