Barrick Africa Middle East is seeking an experienced Airleg Operator to join its underground mining team at North Mara Gold Mine in Tarime, Mara Region, Tanzania. The position involves operating airleg drilling equipment to drill blast holes according to approved mining plans while maintaining high standards of safety, drilling accuracy, equipment care, and production performance.

Responsibilities

Operate airleg drilling equipment to drill blast holes according to approved mining plans and specifications.

Inspect drilling equipment before, during, and after use to ensure safe and effective operation.

Set up and accurately position airleg drills for drilling activities.

Identify and mark drilling locations according to mine plans and supervisor instructions.

Monitor drilling conditions and adjust drilling techniques when necessary.

Maintain drill bits, rods, hoses, and associated drilling equipment.
-
Report equipment faults, breakdowns, defects, and unsafe conditions promptly.

Assist with charging, blasting preparation, and other underground mining activities when required.

Follow all applicable health, safety, environmental, and mining regulations.

Maintain clean and safe working areas.

Complete daily production reports and equipment inspection records.

Achieve assigned drilling and production targets.

Maintain equipment uptime through proper operation and basic maintenance.

Ensure drilled holes meet required quality and accuracy standards.

Maintain an incident- and accident-free working record through compliance with safety procedures.

Report equipment defects and workplace hazards within the required timeframe.
Qualification Requirements

Certificate of Secondary Education.

Demonstrated airleg drill operation skills.

Certificate or training in Underground Mining Operations is an added advantage.

Valid Tanzanian driving licence, Class B, C, D or E.

Relevant equipment operator licences.
Experience and Competencies
Candidates should have:

Proven experience operating airleg drills in a mining environment.

At least 3 years of experience in mining or construction operations.

Practical knowledge of airleg drilling operations.

Knowledge of drilling techniques, mining safety standards, and equipment maintenance.

Equipment inspection and basic maintenance skills.

Physical ability to work safely in confined underground environments.

Sound knowledge of relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Formal training certification for the types of equipment the candidate is qualified to operate.

Knowledge of safety systems and incident investigation.

Knowledge of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA).

Sound knowledge of workplace occupational health and safety.

A valid country-of-origin driving licence.

Ability to operate manual or stick-shift transmission vehicles.
