Silverleaf Academy Ltd is a pioneering network of high-quality and affordable schools in Tanzania that is transforming education for children from low-income communities. Through a scalable and technology-enabled learning model, the organization delivers world-class education focused on character, competence, and creativity. With successful campuses already operating and a national teacher training initiative underway, Silverleaf Academy plans to expand significantly by 2030, targeting more than 10,000 students and over 2,000 trained educators across Tanzania. As part of this growth phase, the organization is inviting experienced Tanzanian business leaders to join its Board or Committees to support the development of one of East Africa’s most promising education ventures.

Position Title: Board Member or Committee Member – Tanzania Business Leadership

Organization: Silverleaf Academy Ltd.

Location: Primarily remote with annual in-person meetings in Tanzania or Nairobi

Type: Pro-bono role (Unpaid)

Silverleaf Academy is seeking an accomplished Tanzanian entrepreneur or senior business executive to serve as a Non-Executive Director. The successful candidate should have experience leading or scaling businesses in Tanzania and possess strong expertise in regulatory engagement, strategic partnerships, and stakeholder management across government and private sector institutions. The role involves supporting Silverleaf’s growth strategy, strengthening its visibility and credibility, and creating connections with influential decision-makers and institutional partners.

Board members are expected to demonstrate the organization’s core values by acting with integrity, empathy, courage, collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to long-term impact and sustainable systems change.

Ideal candidates should:
• Have a respected public profile within Tanzanian business and policy circles
• Have successfully led or expanded businesses in Tanzania
• Understand the operational, regulatory, and cultural business environment in Tanzania
• Be passionate about education, economic development, and systemic transformation
• Be willing to act as a strategic advisor, advocate, and connector for Silverleaf Academy

Key responsibilities include:
• Providing strategic guidance on national growth, governance, and sustainability
• Supporting compliance, ethical leadership, and risk management
• Advising on business operations, government relations, and public-private partnerships
• Assisting with regulatory navigation and stakeholder engagement
• Identifying partnership opportunities and strengthening market positioning
• Connecting Silverleaf with government leaders, corporate executives, civic organizations, and media stakeholders
• Representing the organization at forums, events, and stakeholder engagements
• Participating in monthly virtual board meetings and quarterly in-person engagements

Required qualifications and experience:
• Proven leadership experience with integrity and strategic judgment
• Strong networks within Tanzanian business and government sectors
• Experience advising boards, chief executives, or senior leadership teams
• Deep understanding of Tanzania’s business environment and public policy systems
• Fluency in both Kiswahili and English

Time commitment:
• Monthly board updates requiring approximately 60 minutes virtually
• Quarterly board meetings lasting approximately 90 minutes with preparation time
• Around 3 to 6 hours per month for ongoing engagement
• Occasional participation in strategic national events and representation activities

Success indicators include:
• Active participation in board and committee responsibilities
• Contribution of at least one strategic introduction, partnership, or opportunity annually
• Meaningful support in strengthening Silverleaf’s visibility and stakeholder relationships
• Improved positioning within Tanzania’s education and business ecosystem
