Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Internship Programme 2027 – 65 Posts

The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation (MoWSI), through the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGW4RP), has announced a new internship programme for young graduates in Kenya. The programme is funded by the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank and aims to strengthen groundwater institutions while equipping graduates with practical workplace experience.

The 12-month internship is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional employment by placing successful candidates in government agencies and county institutions implementing the HoAGW4RP. A total of 65 interns will form the second cohort, which is scheduled to begin in January 2027.

About the Internship Programme

The Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project focuses on improving access to groundwater information and promoting the sustainable management of groundwater resources across the Horn of Africa borderlands. As part of its capacity-building initiatives, the internship programme provides graduates with hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to real government projects in the water sector.

Interns will be coordinated by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation and managed through the Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources (RCGW).

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be between 25 and 35 years of age.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.
• Have graduated within the last two years from the date of advertisement.
• Not have benefited from any other Government of Kenya-funded internship programme.
• Not have formal employment in their field of specialization after graduation.

Responsibilities

Successful interns will be expected to:

• Complete assignments given by supervisors and mentors.
• Participate in mentorship and professional development activities.
• Document skills and experience gained during the internship.
• Support quarterly monitoring and evaluation activities.
• Be ready for deployment to any participating institution implementing the project.
• Participate in office and field assignments, including project activities in target counties.
• Observe confidentiality and safeguard government equipment and resources.
• Comply with the rules and regulations of the assigned public institution.

Stipend and Benefits

The internship will run for 12 months and is non-renewable. Interns will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with the Government of Kenya Public Service Internship guidelines. Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will receive an internship completion certificate.
