Hot Kitchen Chef / Pastry Chef at Jackfruit Cafe

Jackfruit Cafe is looking for an experienced Hot Kitchen Chef / Pastry Chef to join its growing kitchen team in Moshi. This is a hands-on culinary role suited for a passionate chef with strong hot kitchen experience and the ability to maintain high standards in a fast-paced, quality-focused restaurant environment.

The successful candidate will take ownership of a kitchen section, support junior team members, maintain consistency in food preparation, and help deliver an exceptional dining experience. Experience with pizza, burgers, pasta, and main dishes is essential, while wood-fired pizza oven experience is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Work the hot line during service.

• Take full responsibility for your section, including preparation and close-down.

  

• Guide and support junior kitchen staff and kitchen assistants.

• Run the kitchen during shifts when the Head Chef is absent.

  

• Maintain consistency in recipes, portion sizes, and plating standards.

• Follow food safety, hygiene, storage, and temperature control procedures.

  

• Assist with stock counts, ordering requests, and waste control.

• Contribute ideas for daily specials and new menu items.

  

• Coordinate with the front-of-house team to maintain efficient service flow and ticket times.

Qualifications Required

• Minimum of 5 years’ professional kitchen experience.

• Intermediate level of English.

• Experience in high-end or fine dining restaurants.

• Strong skills in preparing pizza, burgers, pasta, and main dishes.

• Excellent hot kitchen and cooking techniques.

• Leadership skills with the ability to supervise junior staff.

• Ability to manage a kitchen shift independently.

• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

• Solid understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.

• Experience with a wood-fired pizza oven is preferred.

• Formal culinary training or certification is an added advantage.
