andBeyond Travel is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to support the leadership and daily management of Mnemba Island in Zanzibar. The role involves working closely with the General Manager to maintain high operational standards, develop employees, manage budgets, and ensure that guests receive an exceptional and memorable experience.

The successful candidate will also contribute to conservation and community development initiatives while supporting hospitality operations, administration, human resources, social media, and public relations. This is a senior hospitality position that requires strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.

The Assistant General Manager will assist the General Manager in leading Mnemba Island and ensuring that all departments operate effectively. The position combines hospitality management, people leadership, financial oversight, guest experience, administration, conservation, and community engagement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the General Manager with the overall leadership and management of Mnemba Island.
  • Supporting the training, development, and mentorship of staff.
  • Maintaining relationships with Chadewu and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Participating in lodge Opex and Capex budget management.
  • Taking overall responsibility for uniform orders.
  • Managing bi-yearly orders from South Africa.
  • Managing, implementing, and updating the FBC to-do list while supporting continuous product improvement.
  • Participating in projects and maintaining relationships with suppliers when required.
  • Managing social media and public relations communications.
  • Overseeing daily operations and supporting the Operations Manager and Hospitality Manager when necessary.
  • Ensuring guest satisfaction and maintaining the expected andBeyond guest experience.
  • Participating in daily guest interactions, including check-ins and room allocations.
  • Overseeing the functions of Housekeeping, Butlers, and Kitchen departments.
  • Assisting the General Manager with daily administration and weekly and monthly reporting.
  • Liaising with regional support teams.
  • Supporting conservation projects on Mnemba Island and developing relationships with government authorities, Mimca, Africa Foundation, and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting community development projects and creating opportunities for guests to engage with these initiatives.
  • Participating in strategic, departmental, and regional management meetings.
  • Ensuring HR procedures, performance management, and annual performance appraisals are properly maintained.
  • Ensuring employee files and staff contracts are kept up to date.
  • Assisting with employee relations and disciplinary matters.
  • Ensuring the monthly HR report is submitted on time.

Qualifications Required

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Higher Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management.
  • 3–4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong sense of urgency when handling responsibilities.
