Project Assistant – Gender and Nutrition at Church World Service
Church World Service (CWS) is inviting applications from qualified and passionate professionals for the position of Project Assistant – Gender and Nutrition based in Makere, Tanzania. This full-time role supports the implementation of the WEZESHA Project through community-based interventions that promote gender equality, nutrition, inclusion, and social behaviour change.
The successful candidate will work closely with communities, local leaders, refugee structures, and government stakeholders to deliver gender- and nutrition-sensitive programming, conduct community mobilization, support monitoring and data management, and ensure effective documentation while upholding CWS safeguarding and accountability standards.
Responsibilities

Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of gender- and nutrition-sensitive project activities.

Conduct community mobilization and awareness sessions.

Carry out household follow-up visits.

Facilitate trainings, community dialogues, and beneficiary engagement activities.

Promote the participation and inclusion of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

Support implementation of approved project work plans and activities.
-
Promote gender equality and nutrition awareness within target communities.
-
Encourage dietary diversity and positive behaviour-change practices.
-
Support implementation and dissemination of Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) interventions and materials.

Integrate gender, protection, nutrition, and SBC approaches into project activities.
-
Identify and document gender- and nutrition-related challenges.
-
Document good practices and lessons learned.
-
Collect, verify, and maintain accurate project and beneficiary data.
-
Maintain age-, sex-, and vulnerability-disaggregated information.
-
Keep complete project records, attendance registers, and activity documentation.
-
Support routine monitoring activities and project assessments.
-
Assist in preparing project reports, success stories, and field documentation.
-
Submit reports and documentation within required timelines.
-
Collaborate with community leaders, refugee structures, government counterparts, and other stakeholders.
-
Communicate project objectives, activities, and feedback mechanisms to beneficiaries.
-
Represent CWS professionally during field engagements and coordination meetings when delegated.

Assist with organizing trainings, meetings, workshops, and project events.
-
Support inventory management and tracking of project materials.
-
Maintain project files and provide logistical support for field operations.
-
Comply with CWS policies, safeguarding standards, and the Code of Conduct.

Promote the safe and responsible use of project assets and resources.
-
Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Minimum of 2 years of relevant paid work experience.

Strong communication and facilitation skills.

Experience in community engagement and mobilization.

Ability to collect, manage, and accurately report project data.

Strong organizational and administrative skills.

Ability to work independently and in remote locations.

Adaptability to changing priorities and challenging field environments.

High standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment.

Strong teamwork and accountability skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Fluency in English and Kiswahili.

Awareness of Child Safeguarding and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH).

Familiarity with digital data collection tools such as KoboToolbox or ODK is an added advantage.
