Job Description

WWF Tanzania is inviting applications for the position of Compliance Intern based in Dar es Salaam. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain practical experience in compliance auditing, risk management, internal controls, and donor compliance while supporting one of the world's leading conservation organizations.

The successful candidate will work within the Compliance and Quality Assurance Department, supporting compliance reviews and audits across WWF-Tanzania projects and partner organizations. The internship provides valuable exposure to compliance monitoring, audit processes, statutory compliance, risk assessment, and organizational accountability, with opportunities to travel to project sites across Tanzania.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and conducting compliance reviews and audits of WWF-Tanzania projects and sub-grantees.

  • Review financial and non-financial documents to assess compliance with donor requirements and grant agreements.

  • Verify compliance with WWF policies, procedures, and internal control frameworks.

  • Assess compliance with Tanzanian statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Support field compliance assessments at project sites and partner organizations.

  • Perform testing and verification of financial transactions, procurement processes, payments, asset management, and supporting documentation.

  • Maintain organized audit working papers and supporting evidence.

  • Compile and analyze compliance findings and supporting documentation.

  • Assist in preparing compliance review reports, including observations, identified risks, and recommendations.

  • Track the implementation of corrective actions arising from compliance reviews.

  • Support the preparation of periodic compliance monitoring reports.

  • Assist in identifying compliance risks and internal control weaknesses.

  • Support compliance awareness and capacity-building initiatives within WWF Tanzania.

  • Contribute to improving compliance tools, checklists, and review methodologies.

  • Support special compliance reviews and investigations assigned by the Compliance and Quality Assurance Manager.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Accounting), Accounting, Finance, Auditing, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Practical exposure through internship, field attachment, volunteer work, or employment in Internal Audit, External Audit, Compliance, Risk Management, or Finance and Accounting.

  • Basic understanding of audit methodologies and compliance review techniques.

  • Knowledge of internal control systems and risk management principles.

  • Understanding of Tanzanian statutory and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Knowledge of donor-funded project management and grant compliance is an added advantage.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic working environment.

  • Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 50%) to project sites and partner locations.

  • Ability to work effectively in remote and diverse field environments.
