Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit one Survey Technician to join its mining team in Kahama, Shinyanga. The position is suited to candidates with formal training in surveying or a related technical field and practical experience in underground mining surveying.
The successful candidate will support mine surveying activities, including underground survey control, development pickups, drilling mark-ups, survey station installation, borehole surveys, and accurate recording of mining information. Candidates should also demonstrate strong safety awareness, practical surveying skills, and the ability to work effectively in an underground mining environment.
Responsibilities

Follow all safety, occupational health, environmental, and company policies and procedures.

Attend compulsory safety courses, meetings, and other required safety activities.

Carry out development pickups and pickup processing.

Record all fired rounds accurately to monitor development trends in active mining headings.

Set up DGPS base systems.
-
Compile survey information in systems so that it can be properly retrieved and used.

Ensure survey station reports and mine stakeout plans are correctly filed.

Ensure survey stations are accurately positioned and installed as directed by the Mine Surveyor.

Conduct regular stock-taking of survey consumables and maintain minimum stock levels.

Install grade pins.
-
Install lasers and survey stations.
-
Carry out hole mark-ups, including EH and PH holes.

Perform face mark-ups.

Set up surveying instruments below underground stations.

Assist the Mine Surveyor with tasks related to the maintenance of survey control.

Number batteries for electronic surveying equipment and ensure they are correctly charged.

Maintain records of the mandatory battery discharge process.

Conduct daily vehicle cleaning checks and report defects promptly.

Liaise with the Maintenance Department regarding vehicle defects and scheduled servicing.

Conduct borehole surveys for production holes, including downhole and uphole surveys.
Qualification Requirements

A Survey Technician’s Certificate.

A technician certificate in a survey-related field such as:

Geomatics

Cartography
-
Civil Engineering
-
Mining Survey

Experience working as a Survey Assistant in an underground mining environment.
Experience and Skills
-
At least 2 years of experience working in underground mining surveying.

Sufficient practical training and documented work experience in underground mining surveying.

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is beneficial.

Practical experience with conventional surveying methods.

A drone pilot licence from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) is an added advantage.

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is located in north-western Tanzania, in Kahama District, Shinyanga Region. The mine is approximately 55 kilometres south of Lake Victoria and 150 kilometres southwest of Mwanza.
Bulyanhulu is a narrow-vein underground gold mine containing gold, silver, and copper mineralisation associated with sulphides. The mine's mineralisation occurs along several steeply dipping veins, and commercial production began in 2001.
