Graduate Metallurgist at Barrick

Barrick is seeking recent graduates for the position of Graduate Metallurgist to join its Africa Middle East team in Kahama, Tanzania. This full-time, in-office opportunity is designed for graduates who want to develop their careers in mineral processing and gold plant metallurgical operations.

The successful candidate will support metallurgical laboratory activities, plant process optimization, metallurgical accounting, test work, reporting, and operational troubleshooting. Applicants should have a relevant engineering degree, practical exposure to gold processing, good computer skills, and a commitment to safety, integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities include:

• Understand and perform process plant operational responsibilities in accordance with Tanzania Mining Commission regulations.
• Comply with statutory requirements and Barrick’s safety, health, and environmental standards and procedures.
• Complete weekly metallurgical routine activities.
• Support metallurgical laboratory activities, including sampling and assigned test work.
• Compile daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly data for metallurgical accounting reports.
• Perform metallurgical functions within the processing plant and support regular reporting.
• Conduct metallurgical test work to understand ore feed blending and plant recovery.
• Reconcile reagent and consumable usage with the Supply Chain team on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Participate in plant troubleshooting with operations and engineering teams.
• Support reagent and consumable ordering.
• Assist with gravity, CIL, and milling circuit optimization.
• Maintain records of critical spare parts.
• Assist with monthly metallurgical accounting and reconciliations.
• Plan, conduct, analyze, and report metallurgical test work.
• Maintain and optimize on-stream analyzers, including WAD and TAC systems.
• Maintain the standards and performance of automatic samplers in the plant.
• Provide support to other metallurgical and operational personnel when required.
• Participate in audits, reviews, and quality assurance activities related to operational and metallurgical functions.
• Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual consumables budget and forecast planning for metallurgical laboratory consumables.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Plant Metallurgist or Senior Metallurgist.

Qualifications Required:

• Must be a graduate from 2024, 2025, or 2026.
• Degree in Mineral Process Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering.
• Computer literacy, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SAP.
• Valid Driving License.
• Awareness of the Mines Health & Safety Act.
• Understanding of metallurgical concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Practical training or field experience in gold processing.
• Familiarity with gold plant processing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Basic understanding of business improvement principles.
• Knowledge of metallurgical sample collection, submission, and test work.
• Good communication and documentation management skills.
• Good computer application and software skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
