Full Job Description

Community UNV – School-Based Programmes (6 Positions) at World Food Programme offers an opportunity for qualified candidates to support the implementation of the Tanzania School Feeding Project in selected councils within Mtwara and Lindi regions. The project focuses on improving school feeding systems, nutrition, agriculture, food safety, community participation, and coordination with local government authorities. The positions are full-time and based onsite at UN premises.

Successful candidates will support school feeding and nutrition activities in schools and communities while strengthening the functionality of School Feeding Committees. The role also involves supporting regular engagement between school management, parents, local authorities, and communities to improve participation in school feeding programmes and nutrition-sensitive activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting implementation of school feeding, nutrition, and agriculture activities
  • Assisting School Feeding Committees and community engagement activities
  • Supporting school meetings, parental participation, and local coordination
  • Promoting healthy diets, nutrition awareness, and social behaviour change activities
  • Supporting procurement follow-up through the National e-Procurement System
  • Assisting schools in maintaining cash-based transfer records and routine reports
  • Collecting, verifying, and reporting programme data using approved tools and templates
  • Supporting monitoring of school gardens and agriculture-related activities
  • Promoting food safety, hygiene, and safe food handling practices in schools
  • Identifying and reporting food safety risks and storage gaps
  • Supporting monitoring visits, documentation of findings, and reporting progress
  • Maintaining dashboards and supporting real-time reporting systems
  • Supporting gender-responsive school feeding activities and documentation
  • Coordinating project implementation with Local Government Authorities and communities
  • Documenting success stories, lessons learned, innovations, and implementation challenges

Applicants should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, teamwork and collaboration abilities, problem-solving skills, adaptability, integrity, accountability, and cultural sensitivity. Candidates should also have basic knowledge of project management, monitoring, community engagement approaches, and school-based programme implementation. Experience in data collection, record keeping, reporting, or working with schools, communities, and local government authorities will be an added advantage.
