The World Food Programme (WFP), through the United Nations Volunteers programme, is seeking a Community Engagement and Anticipatory Action Field Assistant to support implementation of an Anticipatory Action project in Tanzania. The role will be based in Arusha with frequent travel to targeted districts including Monduli, Same, and Longido. The successful candidate will support operational readiness activities, community engagement, and coordination efforts aimed at strengthening climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and early warning systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support operational roll-out and readiness activities of the Anticipatory Action project in Same, Monduli, and Longido districts.
- Facilitate coordination and engagement with district authorities, line departments, community leaders, and local stakeholders.
- Support community sensitization and awareness activities on Anticipatory Action concepts and interventions.
- Assist in collection, verification, and documentation of baseline and operational data related to early warning triggers and early actions.
- Support planning and organization of meetings, training sessions, and field activities at district and community levels.
- Monitor implementation progress and provide regular field updates and reports to the WFP programme team.
- Support identification of operational challenges and recommend practical solutions during project implementation.
- Document lessons learned and good practices to support future project scale-up.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements
Education
- Technical or vocational diploma in Disaster Management, Climate Change, Development Studies, Agriculture, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum of two years’ relevant experience in community-based projects, disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, or humanitarian programmes.
- Experience working with local government authorities and communities.
- Knowledge of early warning systems, early action, or climate-related interventions will be an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Fluency in English.
- Fluency in Swahili is desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and community engagement skills.
- Good communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently in remote settings.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel frequently.
- Cultural sensitivity and professionalism.
- Good understanding of the context of the target districts.
- Commitment to UN values and humanitarian principles.
