Job Description

The Assistant Accountant role within the finance function is primarily responsible for managing customer account reconciliations, monitoring premium collections, ensuring accurate allocation of receipts, and supporting credit control processes. The position plays a key role in maintaining financial accuracy between clients, intermediaries, and internal departments while ensuring compliance with insurance operational policies such as “cash before cover.”

Responsibilities
The Assistant Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reconciliation, effective premium collection, and timely resolution of account-related queries. The role also supports cash flow monitoring, commission processing, and coordination with intermediaries and internal departments to maintain financial integrity.

  • Monitor daily customer accounts and ensure adherence to “cash before cover” policy
  • Manage collection of insurance premiums and resolve account-related queries
  • Allocate daily receipts accurately to customer accounts
  • Provide accurate account information to internal departments when required
  • Reconcile intermediary accounts and ensure no unresolved balances exceed 30 days
  • Prepare and send monthly reconciled statements to intermediaries
  • Liaise with underwriters on funds received to ensure timely postings
  • Support premium collection and credit control initiatives across head office and branches
  • Ensure all customer and intermediary queries are resolved promptly and professionally
  • Prepare and reconcile commission reports and ensure timely payment processing
  • Send outstanding statements to clients and intermediaries within required timelines
  • Prepare financial and receivables reports for regional coordination and management review
  • Support departmental performance targets, scorecards, and strategic initiatives
  • Perform any other accounting or administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualification
