Assistant Branch Accountant
Job Description

The Assistant Branch Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of the branch office, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining proper accounting records, supporting administrative functions, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies. The role also provides financial support to branch operations and assists management with budgeting, reporting, and financial analysis.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily financial operations, including processing payments and recording cash, cheque, and bank transfer transactions
- Maintain accurate cash books, bank ledgers, and financial records
- Monitor cash advances, field expenses, and perform related reconciliations
- Prepare branch financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Reconcile sales accounts with bank statements and other financial records
- Reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank accounts
- Manage branch cash flow to ensure sufficient funds for operational requirements
- Prepare branch budgets and support budget monitoring activities
- Analyze financial data and prepare financial reports for the Branch Manager
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, financial policies, and regulatory requirements
- Assist during financial audits and inspections
- Provide financial guidance and support to branch staff
- Perform administrative duties in collaboration with the People and Culture Department
- Prepare meal allowance reports for eligible staff
- Maintain leave records and attendance reports
- Perform any other duties assigned by management
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of two years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related role
- Good knowledge of general accounting principles
- Understanding of accounting regulations and compliance requirements
- Proficiency in relevant accounting software and Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Kiswahili and English
- Strong financial management and reporting skills
- Excellent numerical and quantitative analysis skills
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to provide guidance and support to colleagues
- Deadline-oriented with strong time management skills
