Vodacom Tanzania Plc is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Financial Services Director to lead the growth and transformation of the M-Pesa business into Tanzania’s leading digital financial services platform. The role is central to driving financial inclusion, ecosystem expansion, innovation, and sustainable profitability across the mobile money and fintech landscape.

The successful candidate will hold full responsibility for the M-Pesa financial services portfolio, including strategy execution, revenue growth, product innovation, and overall business performance. This is a senior executive leadership role requiring deep expertise in fintech, digital payments, and large-scale financial ecosystems, with a strong focus on scalability, customer value creation, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Define, develop, and execute the overall Financial Services (M-Pesa) strategy.
• Own and manage the full Profit & Loss (P&L) of the M-Pesa business unit.
• Drive sustainable revenue growth and profitability across all financial services offerings.
• Lead market expansion across payments, credit, savings, insurance, and digital financial products.
• Build and manage strategic partnerships with banks, fintech companies, merchants, and government institutions.
• Position M-Pesa as the leading digital financial services and payments platform in Tanzania.
• Lead the design, development, and rollout of innovative financial products and services.
• Drive customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and increased product usage.
• Leverage data analytics, digital channels, and technology to improve customer experience.
• Optimize pricing strategies to enhance revenue generation and competitiveness.
• Expand merchant and agent networks to strengthen market penetration.
• Ensure strong omnichannel distribution across all customer segments.
• Strengthen compliance with AML, KYC, and data protection regulations.
• Enhance fraud prevention systems and risk management frameworks.
• Ensure high levels of system reliability, operational efficiency, and customer trust.
• Lead and develop a high-performing financial services organization.
• Build fintech capability and digital skills across teams.
• Design and implement scalable talent structures to support business growth.
• Drive a culture of performance excellence, innovation, learning, and collaboration.
• Engage and influence regulators, industry stakeholders, and strategic partners.
• Ensure alignment with corporate governance and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 15 years of experience in financial services, fintech, telecommunications, banking, or executive leadership roles.
• Proven track record of leading large-scale digital financial services or payment platforms.
• Strong experience in P&L ownership and commercial business management.
• Demonstrated success in driving business growth and market expansion.
• Deep understanding of fintech ecosystems, mobile money platforms, and digital payments.
• Strong strategic thinking and ability to scale platform-based business models.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Ability to influence regulators, government bodies, and key industry partners.
• Strong customer-centric mindset with focus on user experience and value creation.
• High competence in data-driven decision-making and digital transformation.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Technology, or a related field.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and people management capabilities.
• Experience in building and leading large, diverse, and high-performing teams.
• Strong understanding of compliance, AML, KYC, and regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, highly competitive environment.
