Engineer 2 – UG Mine Planning

AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania is seeking a qualified and experienced Engineer 2 – UG Mine Planning to join its underground mining operations in Geita. This role provides an opportunity for a mining engineering professional to support underground mine planning activities, production scheduling, and operational execution to maximize the value of the underground orebody.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing short-term and medium-term mine plans, preparing production forecasts, and ensuring mining activities are aligned with operational targets, budgets, and long-term mine strategies. The position requires strong technical knowledge in underground mine planning, mine design, and scheduling systems.

Responsibilities

• Support Mine Planning Department systems that deliver effective underground mine schedules and maximize orebody value.

• Develop accurate physical production schedules for the underground mine based on available reserves and resources.

  

• Prepare detailed short-term mine plans aligned with long-term mine designs and production targets.

• Design underground stopes considering ore quality, geotechnical conditions, and equipment capabilities.

• Schedule stoping activities to achieve production targets and optimize resource utilization.

• Ensure short-term plans remain cost-effective and aligned with approved budgets.

• Prepare management reports highlighting key performance indicators and recommended improvements.

• Collaborate with geotechnical engineers and long-term mining engineers to incorporate technical considerations into mine plans.

• Deliver annual physical budgets, quarterly mining forecasts, and monthly rolling schedules.

• Review weekly 7/21 plans to ensure alignment with monthly production schedules.

• Prepare monthly variance reports comparing mining performance against budget targets.

• Identify and communicate risks affecting grade, production volumes, and schedule performance.

• Support continuous improvement of underground mining planning processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a relevant discipline.

• Professional registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

• Minimum of five (5) years of operational experience in an underground mining environment.

• Experience in mine planning, underground drill and blast operations, and underground mine ventilation.

• Experience using mine design and scheduling software including:

  • Deswik

  • Studio UG

  • EPS

  • Vulcan

• Strong technical understanding of large-scale bulk and semi-selective underground mining operations.

• Good understanding of mining value drivers and operational risks.

• Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment while demonstrating AngloGold Ashanti values.
