Superintendent 2 – Production Operations – AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania

AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania is seeking a Superintendent 2 – Production Operations to manage plant production activities at Geita Gold Mine in Tanzania. The role is responsible for ensuring production operations are conducted safely, cost-effectively, and in an environmentally responsible manner while meeting production targets.

The successful candidate will oversee plant production crews and contractors and support the Manager, Processing in achieving operational, safety, financial, and continuous improvement objectives. The position requires extensive gold processing experience, strong operational leadership, advanced knowledge of metallurgical processes, and the ability to manage production performance, budgets, people, and improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

• Track Critical Control Verifications, leadership site walkabouts, and frontline participation in safety programs.
• Identify, manage, and reduce operational hazards.
• Monitor process safety incidents, fatal risk control overrides, compliance violations, corrective actions, and safety performance indicators.
• Ensure compliance with statutory inspections, health and safety policies, and applicable national and international standards.
• Drive Behaviour-Based Safety observations, near-miss reporting, pre-task risk assessments, safety interventions, PTOs, and inspections.
• Monitor housekeeping standards across crushing, milling, treatment, laydown, and waste sorting facilities.
• Maintain environmental regulatory compliance.
• Develop and execute annual production plans and budgets aligned with strategic objectives.
• Deliver plant throughput, recovery, and cost performance in line with or above budget targets.
• Develop operating strategies to support future plant production requirements.
• Oversee metallurgical data integrity, analysis, and reporting.
• Maintain effective metallurgical accounting systems and process discipline.
• Plan and execute production activities to meet gold production targets and accommodate future ore characteristic changes.
• Calculate plant runtime and throughput capacities for monthly operational plans and Life of Mine production budgets.
• Schedule mill liner relining, screen maintenance, and cyclone operational maintenance to maximize plant runtime.
• Drive continuous improvement and debottlenecking initiatives.
• Update standard operating procedures and manage casual labour under contractor frameworks for shutdown activities.
• Ensure safe and responsible equipment operation across crushing, milling, and treatment circuits.
• Oversee routine operational maintenance and reagent mixing activities.
• Stabilize automation and control systems to maintain optimum operating conditions.
• Manage Life of Mine budgets, Stay-in-Business capital, labour complements, and reagent footprint variances.
• Manage section operational expenditure and enforce cost control measures.
• Promote cost awareness and continuous cost reduction across operational sections.
• Work with technical and capital project teams to identify, prioritize, and implement plant improvement initiatives.
• Participate in project governance, including design reviews, construction oversight, execution, and operational sign-off.
• Support the safe integration of new processing technologies and automated systems into existing plant operations.
• Develop Individual Development Plans for direct reports.
• Conduct Training Needs Analysis for production operations employees.
• Work with the Plant Training Officer to identify skill gaps and develop training matrices.
• Facilitate crew training to ensure compliance with safe operating standards.
• Conduct employee performance appraisals in accordance with company requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement within the production function by identifying, prioritizing, and implementing improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and requirements include:

• BSc in Engineering in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or Process Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in gold plant operations.
• Experience covering crushing, milling, thickening, leaching, elution plants, TSF, and compressors.
• Experience in operational budget analysis and management.
• Experience in cost control and financial forecasting.
• Experience preparing plant runtime and throughput information for monthly plans and Life of Mine budgets.
• Basic understanding of project management.
• Advanced understanding of plant systems, metallurgical principles, and process optimization techniques.
• Strong knowledge of safety management and operational management.
• Basic understanding of business planning.
• Knowledge of metallurgical processes and practices.
• Advanced application of processing science.
• Basic application of information management and process control.
• Basic application of metal accounting.
• Advanced application of engineering science.
• Knowledge of budgeting and cost control.
• Experience in performance management and reporting.
• Strong stakeholder management skills.
