Manager, UG Mine Production

AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania is seeking an experienced and highly skilled professional to fill the position of Manager, Underground Mine Production based in Geita. The role offers an opportunity for a qualified mining leader to oversee underground production operations at the Nyankansa and Geita Hill Underground Mining Projects while driving safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership within a large-scale, trackless underground mining environment. The position requires strong mine management experience, technical expertise, and the ability to lead teams while achieving production targets, controlling costs, and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

• Identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks within underground mining operations to achieve safety objectives.

• Oversee underground production and development activities in large-scale trackless mining operations.

  

• Collaborate with technical specialists to improve operational effectiveness and performance.

• Establish and commission Paste and CAF operations to enhance underground mining efficiency.

• Analyze production performance data and implement improvements to achieve production and cost targets.

• Ensure delivery of operational plans, production targets, and cost objectives.

• Communicate operational processes and expectations effectively to ensure team alignment.

• Train, mentor, and develop new and inexperienced employees to build workforce capability.

• Identify and develop talent within the mining team.

• Manage underground mining contractors and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.

• Establish and implement mine planning processes and systems to improve operational performance.

• Monitor contractor performance and ensure achievement of agreed targets.

• Apply AngloGold Ashanti project management standards in managing minor projects.

• Develop innovative solutions to improve mining performance and operational efficiency.

• Build and lead a high-performing underground mining team.

• Identify environmental risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company standards.

• Optimize resource utilization to achieve operational objectives.

• Manage compliance with conflict-of-interest policies, SOX control requirements, and reporting obligations.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualification, preferably a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining or related engineering field.

• Underground Mine Managers Certificate is preferred.

• Minimum of eight (8) years of operational experience in an underground mining environment.

• At least three (3) years of experience at mine management level.

• Experience with Operational Excellence (OE) initiatives or equivalent improvement programmes.

• Experience working in highly mechanized underground mining operations.

• Advanced knowledge of contract management and project management standards.

• Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to manage teams, contractors, and complex mining operations effectively.
