Reconciliation Manager

NBC Tanzania is seeking an experienced and results-oriented professional to lead its reconciliation function in Dar es Salaam. The Reconciliation Manager will oversee bank, general ledger, suspense, clearing, digital, card, mobile money and Nostro account reconciliations, ensuring that all activities are completed accurately and within agreed timelines.

The role also focuses on strengthening reconciliation controls, resolving outstanding and high-risk items, supporting regulatory and audit requirements, improving processes and providing reliable reconciliation reports to management. The successful candidate will additionally lead, coach and develop reconciliation staff while promoting automation and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily, weekly and monthly reconciliation activities across assigned bank, GL, suspense, clearing, digital, card, mobile money and Nostro accounts.

• Ensure reconciliations are completed, reviewed, supported with evidence and attested within agreed timelines.

  

• Oversee the investigation, ageing, escalation and clearance of reconciling items and long-outstanding balances.

• Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure completeness, accuracy and segregation of duties.

  

• Maintain proper documentation, evidence and audit trails for reconciliation activities and exception resolutions.

• Ensure reconciliation activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies and the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework.

  

• Prepare reconciliation dashboards and exception reports for management.

• Highlight ageing, high-risk items, root causes and required corrective actions in management reports.

  

• Identify process gaps, control weaknesses and recurring reconciliation exceptions.

• Recommend sustainable improvements to reconciliation processes and controls.

• Support internal and external audits by providing reconciliations, schedules, explanations and action-plan updates.

• Ensure compliance with AML, sanctions, KYC, information security and operational risk requirements.

• Work with branches, Treasury, Finance, Operations, Technology and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies.

• Escalate high-value, unusual, aged or high-risk reconciliation items through the appropriate governance channels.

• Ensure timely responses to reconciliation queries.

• Communicate required actions and deadlines clearly to relevant stakeholders.

• Lead, coach and develop reconciliation staff.

• Set clear team objectives and monitor staff performance.

• Identify and support staff training and development needs.

• Allocate workloads and manage leave plans to ensure continuous reconciliation operations.

• Promote automation, standardization and simplification of reconciliation processes.

• Drive improvements in accuracy, efficiency and control effectiveness.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Business Administration or a related field.

• Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA or an equivalent qualification.

• At least five years of experience in banking operations, finance operations, reconciliations or financial controls.

• At least two years of experience in a supervisory or management role.

• Strong knowledge of bank reconciliations, suspense accounts, clearing accounts, Nostro accounts, GL controls and settlement processes.

• Sound understanding of operational risk, internal controls, AML, sanctions, KYC and regulatory compliance.

• Advanced analytical, investigation and problem-solving skills.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to interpret reconciliation trends, ageing reports, exception reports and root-cause analysis.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

• Knowledge of core banking and reconciliation systems.
