Absa is seeking a senior Mergers & Acquisitions Integration Lead to join its team in Sandton, South Africa. This is a VP-level opportunity focused on leading inorganic growth execution and building a central capability that can support future acquisitions, integrations and other complex transactions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for turning deal strategies into practical execution plans, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing Day 1 readiness, controlling risks and dependencies, and ensuring successful post-close stabilisation. Unlike a general project management role, this position requires strong M&A integration expertise, executive-level stakeholder management and the ability to build repeatable internal execution capabilities.

About the Role
The Mergers & Acquisitions Integration Lead will establish and lead a central inorganic execution capability. The role will connect Corporate Development and other key functions to ensure that transactions move effectively from deal assessment through mobilisation, Day 1 readiness, cutover and post-close stabilisation.
The position requires the ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority while maintaining a single integrated view of programme delivery, risks, dependencies, milestones and value creation.
Key Responsibilities

Lead M&A integration planning from early deal assessment through mobilisation, Day 1 readiness, cutover and post-close stabilisation.

Translate deal objectives, SPA obligations, Conditions Precedent, regulatory requirements and business outcomes into executable integration plans.

Coordinate integration across people, processes, data, systems, customers, operations, legal and regulatory workstreams.

Establish programme governance structures, steering committees, workstream forums and escalation mechanisms.

Maintain RAID management, dependency tracking, milestone control and decision logs.

Prepare clear executive-level reporting covering transaction progress, risks, dependencies, decisions and escalations.

Mobilise cross-functional teams according to transaction complexity, geography, risk and transaction type.

Coordinate Corporate Development, Legal, Technology, Data, Operations, Finance, Tax, Risk, Compliance, Financial Crime, Internal Audit, Human Capital, Property, Business and Country teams.

Work with Legal, Risk, Compliance and Corporate Development teams to manage SPA obligations, regulatory approvals and Conditions Precedent.

Coordinate technology and data integration activities, including system impacts, data migration, cybersecurity, access, reporting, architecture, testing and cutover.

Manage Day 1 readiness, cutover planning, transitional services and post-close stabilisation.

Track synergies, benefits, cost-to-achieve and other value dependencies.

Ensure long-term value ownership is appropriately transferred into the business.

Develop repeatable M&A integration playbooks, templates, governance routines and readiness dashboards.

Build reusable execution tools and internal M&A integration capability.

Work with external consulting and advisory partners while ensuring knowledge transfer and internal ownership.

Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements, Absa policies and the Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework.

Identify and manage risks and relevant risk events associated with the role.

Qualification Requirements
The advertised requirements include:

A relevant Bachelor's degree or Advanced Diploma in Business, Finance, Commerce, Law, Technology, Engineering, Programme Management or a related field.

Postgraduate qualification or MBA is advantageous.

Programme or project management certification is advantageous, such as PMP, PRINCE2, MSP, Agile, SAFe or equivalent.

M&A, corporate finance, strategy, transformation, risk, technology or financial services certification is advantageous.

Significant senior-level experience in M&A integration, separation, acquisition execution, transformation, PMO/IMO leadership or complex programme delivery.

Experience in financial services, banking, insurance or another regulated environment is strongly preferred.

Proven experience delivering complex cross-functional programmes involving business, technology, data, operations, finance, risk, compliance, legal and people functions.

Experience managing Day 1 readiness, cutover, transitional services, post-close stabilisation and value tracking.

Experience working with executive sponsors, steering committees and senior decision-making forums.

Experience developing internal delivery methods, playbooks, templates and execution governance.

Experience working with external advisory or consulting partners and transferring knowledge to internal teams.
