Absa Bank is seeking a Treasury – Funds Transfer Pricing Specialist to join its Treasury function in Sandton. This is a senior banking and finance opportunity focused on funding, liquidity management, balance-sheet optimisation and funding-cost management across the Africa Regional Operations (ARO) banking entities.
The successful candidate will provide specialist treasury expertise to in-country teams, review funding and liquidity positions, support regulatory reporting and help optimise funding strategies. The role also involves working closely with senior management, Group Treasury functions, regulators and country-level Treasury teams.
About the Role
The Treasury – Funds Transfer Pricing Specialist will support the oversight and management of the Funding and Liquidity Management (FLM) function across ARO. The position plays an important role in ensuring that funding strategies comply with regulatory and Board requirements while also supporting business growth and improving funding efficiency.
The role requires strong knowledge of balance-sheet management, treasury operations, funding strategies and liquidity risk. Because the position involves multiple countries and senior stakeholders, strong analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities

Review and challenge funding and liquidity risk positions across ARO banking entities.

Review funding plans and identify potential funding risks and funding-support requirements.

Provide specialist advice to country Treasury teams and business units on funding strategies.

Support the development of funding targets designed to strengthen primacy and optimise funding costs.

Optimise funding strategies to support market-share growth, improved returns and cost reductions.
-
Engage with country Treasury and Group Treasury functions regarding wholesale funding-market capacity and opportunities.

Lead Funding and Liquidity Management engagements with country Treasury teams.
-
Advise on strategic funding-planning requirements.
-
Determine foreign-currency funding requirements for ARO entities.
-
Prepare updates for the Treasury Committee and Board as part of integrated planning processes.

Review and explain monthly movements in funding and liquidity risk positions.
-
Support BA610 reporting requirements.
-
Oversee BA610 liquidity-risk reporting across ARO entities.
-
Support discussions with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).
-
Ensure alignment with Group Funding and Liquidity Management requirements.
-
Identify and implement opportunities to optimise entity funding structures.
-
Support sovereign investment strategies to improve ARO's contribution to Group RoRC.
-
Engage with Group FLM and Treasury FSTI regarding foreign-currency requirements.
-
Provide input on sovereign investment strategies.
-
Lead engagement with ARO Global Markets.
-
Ensure funding limits and exposures are appropriately implemented and monitored.
-
Support business growth while maintaining compliance with Board-level liquidity requirements.

Coordinate Funding and Liquidity Management requirements involving contingency planning.

Coordinate SARB, local regulatory and ALCO requirements across ARO.
-
Review and challenge Entity Treasury teams on ILAAP submissions.
-
Support regulatory ILAAP submissions.

Support the drafting and governance of Group ILAAP requirements relating to ARO.
Qualifications Required

A Bachelor's degree is required.
-
Relevant qualifications should preferably be in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, Finance or a related field.

Relevant advanced diplomas may also be considered in accordance with the employer's stated education requirements.
Experience Required

More than 5 years of technical or managerial experience in areas such as:
