Onfon Microfinance is seeking an Accountant to support its financial operations in Dar es Salaam. The role focuses on maintaining accurate accounting records, managing fixed assets, processing payroll, handling statutory obligations, and ensuring supplier accounts are properly reconciled.
The position is suitable for an accounting or finance professional with strong attention to detail and knowledge of Tanzanian financial and statutory requirements. The successful candidate will also support audits, financial reporting, month-end and year-end closing, and the accurate recording of financial transactions.
Responsibilities

Maintain an accurate and up-to-date fixed asset register.

Record asset acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.

Conduct periodic physical verification of company assets.

Reconcile asset records and investigate variances.

Ensure company assets are properly tagged and safeguarded.

Prepare reports on asset movement and utilization.

Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.

Ensure accounting documents are properly filed and easily retrievable.

Manage document retention according to company policies and regulatory requirements.

Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation.

Prepare and process monthly payroll accurately and on time.

Calculate salaries, allowances, deductions, and employee benefits correctly.

Prepare and remit statutory deductions within prescribed deadlines.

Reconcile payroll accounts and statutory balances every month.

Respond to employee payroll-related queries.
-
Record financial transactions accurately in the accounting system.

Prepare journals, payment vouchers, receipts, and other accounting entries.

Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure financial data is complete and accurate.

Assist with month-end and year-end financial closing.

Support preparation of financial reports and management accounts.

Reconcile supplier statements with company records.

Investigate and resolve supplier account discrepancies.

Ensure supplier balances are accurate before payments are processed.

Maintain documentation supporting supplier reconciliations.

Work with Procurement and Operations teams to resolve supplier-related issues.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

CPA (T), ACCA, or an equivalent professional qualification is preferred.

Knowledge of Tanzanian statutory requirements, including PAYE, NSSF, WCF, SDL, and NHIF.

Strong financial record-keeping and reconciliation skills.

Good attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to manage payroll and statutory obligations effectively.

Ability to maintain organized accounting documentation.
