Operator 2 – Equipment

AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania is seeking a qualified and experienced Operator 2 – Equipment to join the Process Plant department at Geita Gold Mine in Geita. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating milling circuit equipment safely and efficiently while ensuring production targets are achieved in line with company procedures and operational standards.

This role requires a safety-focused individual with practical experience in process plant operations, particularly milling activities. The Operator 2 – Equipment will work closely with supervisors and support teams to maintain reliable plant performance, identify equipment issues, and contribute to continuous improvement in mining operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate SAG mill, Ball mill, discharge pumps, and related milling equipment according to standard operating procedures and control room instructions.

• Perform safe start-up and shutdown activities for milling equipment.

• Monitor plant conditions and process performance, including:

  • Mill speed.

  • Mill load.

  • Discharge density.

  • Hopper levels.

  • Lubrication systems.

  • Equipment operating conditions.

• Report equipment defects, faults, and abnormal operating conditions promptly.

• Manage water, sump, and spillage control systems.

• Maintain pond levels and ensure pumps are available and operating effectively.

• Prevent plant overflows and ensure spillages are reported and safely cleaned.

• Maintain high housekeeping standards within the process plant.

• Identify workplace hazards and apply appropriate safety controls.

• Use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.

• Follow permit-to-work procedures and conduct risk assessments.

• Ensure emergency equipment is inspected and maintained.

• Complete equipment inspections, operational log sheets, sampling records, and job cards accurately.

• Perform weekly planned tasks and shutdown preparation activities.

• Coordinate effectively with crusher operations, maintenance teams, training teams, day service teams, security, and HSE personnel.

• Stop unsafe activities and report unusual operating conditions when necessary.

• Perform other operational duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Ordinary Level Secondary Education or above.

• Computer literacy skills.

• Ability to drive a manual vehicle.

• Minimum of three (3) years of working experience in a process plant environment.

• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot milling operation problems.

• Ability to perform repetitive tasks consistently while maintaining quality standards.

• Strong understanding of plant safety procedures and operational requirements.

• Good teamwork and communication skills.

• Clean criminal record.
