AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania is seeking an experienced Technical Specialist – Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) Maintenance Underground to join Geita Gold Mine in Geita. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining underground heavy mining equipment while ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient mining operations.

This role is ideal for highly experienced mechanical and electrical maintenance professionals with strong knowledge of underground mining fleets. The Technical Specialist will also play an important role in skills transfer by coaching and training Tanzanian employees to improve technical competency and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Maintain strong awareness and management of safety, health, and environmental requirements in the workplace.

• Provide technical leadership and coaching to junior national mechanics through structured skills transfer programs.

• Advise the Superintendent on technical challenges, risks, opportunities, and improvement areas.

• Demonstrate work practices aligned with company values, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

• Provide timely updates to management regarding work progress, challenges, and resource requirements.

• Prepare detailed repair reports, including photographs of major equipment failures.

• Support maintenance teams in achieving planned work schedules and improving equipment availability.

• Identify workplace hazards and support safe execution of maintenance activities.

• Provide expert technical guidance to underground maintenance supervisors and trades personnel.

• Develop work scopes for major maintenance activities involving underground mining equipment.

• Ensure maintenance work follows Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements and best installation practices.

• Monitor underground maintenance skills and provide practical training where required.

• Maintain training records for underground maintenance personnel.

• Conduct quality inspections and monitor ongoing maintenance activities.

• Perform electrical diagnostic testing, fault finding, and repairs on underground remote systems.

• Assist in developing maintenance work packages and procedures.

• Work with planners to optimize spare parts and materials under VMI contracts with MANTRAC and SANDVIK.

• Identify maintenance activities to be added to equipment service backlogs.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Relevant trade test qualification.

• Trainer or coach qualification (certificate or diploma) is an added advantage.

• Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy mining underground equipment maintenance and repair.

• Previous experience in a similar technical specialist role or extensive mechanical maintenance experience.

• Experience working with Sandvik and Caterpillar underground mining equipment.

• Expert knowledge of underground mining fleet maintenance tools and equipment.

• Strong knowledge of equipment inspection and routine servicing procedures.

• Experience planning and executing major underground fleet maintenance activities, including major component replacements.

• Strong record-keeping skills.

• Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment.

• Ability to read and write technical records and daily maintenance logs.

• Strong safety awareness and commitment.
