Full Job Description

The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) is an Executive Agency operating under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, established under the Executive Agencies Act, Cap. 245. The Agency is responsible for enforcing the Weights and Measures Act, Cap. 340, with the aim of ensuring accuracy, fairness, and compliance in all trade measurements and weighing systems across Tanzania. Through its regulatory and inspection functions, WMA plays an important role in protecting consumers, promoting fair trade practices, and strengthening confidence in commercial transactions.

As part of its commitment to empowering young professionals and enhancing workplace experience among graduates, the Agency invites applications from qualified, motivated, and dynamic Tanzanians to fill Eight (8) volunteer positions for the post of Weights and Measures Officer II. The programme offers an excellent opportunity for graduates to gain practical exposure in legal and industrial metrology while contributing to public service delivery and national development.

The Weights and Measures Officer II will be responsible for supporting inspection, verification, and enforcement activities related to measuring instruments and trade measurements. The position requires individuals who are detail-oriented, technically competent, and capable of ensuring compliance with statutory measurement standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Inspect, verify, and adjust measuring instruments to ensure compliance with legal standards
• Maintain and safeguard working standards and measuring equipment used during inspections
• Provide guidance and technical advice on the proper verification and use of measuring instruments
• Investigate cases of non-compliance with statutory weights and measures requirements
• Support enforcement activities related to measurement accuracy and trade compliance
• Prepare inspection findings, reports, and field documentation when required
• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisors

Qualifications and Experience:
• Holder of Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma in Legal and Industrial Metrology from a recognized institution
• Strong understanding of measurement systems and inspection procedures
• Ability to work accurately and maintain professional integrity during inspections
• Good communication and reporting skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Computer literacy and ability to manage technical records effectively

General Conditions:
• Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years
• Applicants must attach an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) with reliable contacts, including postal address, email address, and telephone numbers
• Applicants must attach certified copies of academic and professional certificates, academic transcripts, and birth certificates
• Applicants must have two guarantors who are Public Servants
• Applicants must attach an introduction letter from the Village/Street Executive Officer or relevant Local Government Authority
• Applicants must be willing to volunteer in the respective assigned area
• Applicants must attach a copy of the National Identification Card (NIDA)
• Applicants must not have been convicted by any Court of Law for criminal or disciplinary offences and must possess good conduct and acceptable moral character within the community
• Applicants must not have been employed by any Public Institution since graduation
• Testimonials, Provisional Results, Statements of Results, and Form IV and Form VI Results Slips shall not be accepted
• All foreign academic certificates must be recognized by the relevant authorities, namely TCU, NECTA, or NACTVET. Applicants applying for positions requiring a specific GPA must attach a GPA Calculation Certificate issued by TCU
• The volunteering programme is strictly intended for skills development and acquisition of work experience and shall not be construed as a basis for automatic employment in the Public Service
