Full Job Description
Weights and Measures Agency is an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade established under the Executive Agencies Act, Cap. 245. The agency was formed as part of the Public Service Reform Programme aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness in public service delivery. WMA executes its responsibilities under the Weights and Measures Act, Cap. 340 and plays an important role in ensuring fairness, accuracy, and reliability in measurements used in trade and industry across Tanzania.
The agency is currently inviting applications from qualified, competent, motivated, and dynamic Tanzanian graduates to fill eighteen volunteering positions for Assistant Weights and Measures Officer. The volunteering programme is designed to provide young graduates with practical workplace exposure, skills development, and professional experience within the public sector environment.
The Assistant Weights and Measures Officer will support the implementation of weights and measures operations, assist in handling measuring instruments and systems, and participate in field and office activities related to metrology services. The role requires technical competence, integrity, and the ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Adjusting and calibrating measuring instruments
- Caring for and maintaining working standards and equipment
- Mobilizing working tools and equipment before and after field assignments
- Performing daily systems initialization and computer system backups
- Supporting field inspections and operational activities related to weights and measures services
- Maintaining records and ensuring proper handling of measuring devices and equipment
- Assisting in operational and technical assignments as directed by supervisors
- Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by superiors
The ideal candidate should possess technical knowledge in Legal and Industrial Metrology together with the ability to work responsibly in operational and field environments. Applicants are expected to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and willingness to learn and develop practical workplace skills.
Qualifications and Requirements include:
- Holder of Diploma in Legal and Industrial Metrology from a recognized institution
- Ability to work effectively in field and office environments
- Basic technical and computer system handling skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong sense of responsibility and integrity
- Ability to work collaboratively within teams
- Willingness to volunteer and gain practical work experience
General Conditions include:
- Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years
- Applicants must attach an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) with reliable contacts including postal address, email address, and telephone numbers
- Certified copies of academic and professional certificates, academic transcripts, and birth certificate must be attached
- Applicants must have two guarantors who are Public Servants
- Applicants must attach an introduction letter from the Village/Street Executive Officer or relevant Local Government Authority
- Applicants must be willing to volunteer in the assigned area
- Applicants must attach a copy of National Identification Card (NIDA)
- Applicants must possess good conduct and acceptable moral character and should not have been convicted of criminal or disciplinary offences
- Applicants must not have been employed by any Public Institution since graduation
- Testimonials, provisional results, statements of results, and Form IV and Form VI results slips will not be accepted
- Foreign academic certificates must be recognized by relevant authorities such as TCU, NECTA, or NACTVET
- Applicants applying for positions requiring GPA qualifications must attach a GPA Calculation Certificate issued by TCU
- The volunteering programme is strictly for skills development and work experience and does not guarantee automatic employment in the Public Service
- Application letters may be written in either Swahili or English
