Ifakara Health Institute through the Achieve Study is inviting qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Research Scientist.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out and maintaining HPLC-based analytical methods for quantification of insecticidal compounds while ensuring full compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HPLC systems
  • Implement and refine HPLC analytical methods
  • Prepare and process samples from insecticide-treated materials
  • Maintain GLP-compliant documentation and records
  • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Train and supervise staff, students, and apprentices in HPLC techniques
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external clients on project execution
  • Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance activities
  • Analyse and interpret laboratory data using validated software
  • Prepare structured reports and data summaries
  • Support scientific publications and regulatory submissions
  • Maintain secure and auditable data storage systems
  • Manage workload to ensure timely delivery of outputs
  • Maintain COSHH, risk assessments, and safety documentation
  • Promote safeguarding and inclusive practices

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or related field
  • Knowledge of GLP principles and regulatory frameworks
  • Proficiency in scientific software and data analysis tools
  • Familiarity with insecticidal or pesticidal chemical classes

Experience

  • Experience with HPLC and analytical chemistry
  • Experience working in GLP-compliant laboratory environments

Skills

  • Strong record-keeping and data integrity skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness to learn and apply new laboratory techniques

Language Requirements

  • Strong communication skills in both English and Swahili
