Job Description

Kitengule Hospital is hiring an ICU Assistant Nursing Officer (ANO) to support critical care services in its Intensive Care Unit in Dar es Salaam. The role focuses on providing direct nursing care to critically ill patients, supporting life-support interventions, and ensuring continuous monitoring and rapid response to patient condition changes. It is a hands-on clinical role requiring strong ICU awareness, technical competence, and strict adherence to patient safety protocols.

This position suits a trained nurse with ICU or emergency care experience who can function effectively under pressure and collaborate closely with doctors and multidisciplinary teams in a high-acuity environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU.
  • Continuously monitor vital signs and report any changes to the attending clinician.
  • Assist in managing patients on life-support equipment such as ventilators, monitors, and infusion pumps.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to nursing standards and hospital protocols.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete ICU nursing documentation and reports.
  • Strictly follow infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines and hospital safety procedures.
  • Assist during emergency procedures, resuscitations, and critical care interventions.
  • Collaborate with doctors and other nurses to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by hospital management within clinical scope.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC) and a valid practicing license.
  • Additional ICU, critical care, BLS, or ACLS certification is an advantage.
  • At least 1 year of experience in ICU, HDU, or emergency department settings.
  • Strong understanding of critical care nursing principles and patient monitoring.
  • Ability to operate ICU medical equipment effectively.
  • Strong professionalism, integrity, and commitment to patient safety.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, nights, weekends, and emergency duty rotations.
