Good Agriculture Practice Technician (GAP Technician) – 7 Positions

Mkwawa Leaf Tobacco Limited (MLTL) invites applications from qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Good Agriculture Practice Technician (GAP Technician). The role involves supporting tobacco farmers through agricultural extension services, production monitoring, compliance assessments, and implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Agricultural Labour Practices (ALP).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular visits to farmers to assess, record, and provide feedback on farming activities.
  • Ensure farmers follow all Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) procedures.
  • Ensure farmers comply with Agricultural Labour Practice (ALP) requirements.
  • Conduct NTRM risk assessments and barn compliance assessments.
  • Assist in preparation of production estimates.
  • Ensure plant count exercises are conducted according to procedures to obtain first production estimates.
  • Ensure company crop surveys are conducted according to required parameters for second production estimates.
  • Ensure company bale count exercises are completed accurately to obtain final production estimates.
  • Ensure barn count exercises are conducted honestly and correctly to determine pre-contracted volumes and seed distribution based on barn capacity.
  • Provide technical assistance to farmers on tobacco production.
  • Maintain good relationships with farmers and primary society leadership to support positive company reputation.
  • Advise and train farmers on seedbed preparation, sowing, hygiene, pesticide application, PPE use, and land preparation.
  • Perform duties according to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or manager.

Job Requirements

Education and Qualifications

  • At least a Diploma in:

    • General Agriculture
    • Crop Production
    • Agricultural Extension
    • Agronomy
    • Horticulture
    • Agricultural Economics
    • Agribusiness
    • Or any other agriculture-related field.

Experience

  • Experience in extension services and outreach programmes.
  • Training experience will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Energetic, proactive, and adaptable personality.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within teams and across departments.

Additional Requirements

  • Competence in motorcycle riding with a valid motorcycle driving license.
  • Ability to travel to project sites.
  • Willingness to live and work in remote areas.

Reporting

  • The successful candidate will report directly to the Area Agronomy Coordinator on day-to-day activities.
