Job Description

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a leading intergovernmental organization committed to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. The Driver position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of IOM personnel, visitors, and goods while maintaining assigned vehicles in excellent condition. The role also provides administrative and logistical support to facilitate the smooth operation of IOM activities in Dar es Salaam and other designated locations.

Responsibilities

  • Drive assigned IOM office vehicle(s) safely and efficiently
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections, including checks on tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belts, and other essential components
  • Arrange minor vehicle repairs and ensure vehicles remain clean and roadworthy at all times
  • Ensure vehicles undergo regular maintenance and service according to schedules
  • Maintain records of spare parts and conduct monthly inventories of vehicle supplies
  • Identify and use the safest and most efficient routes to destinations
  • Ensure vehicles are used strictly for authorized official business
  • Prepare daily log sheets and monthly reports covering mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle utilization
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding IOM operations, personnel, and official matters
  • Take appropriate measures to minimize security risks to passengers, vehicles, and property
  • Receive official personnel at airports and assist with immigration and customs procedures when required
  • Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, and other official communications
  • Liaise with government agencies, project sites, UN agencies, and other institutions for deliveries and collections
  • Maintain accurate records of transported items and official correspondence
  • Assist office staff with basic administrative tasks such as telephone calls, photocopying, and record keeping when required
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors

Qualification required

  • High School Certificate with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid national driving licence
  • Good knowledge of traffic laws, driving regulations, and road safety practices
  • Experience driving various vehicle makes and models
  • Basic vehicle maintenance and minor repair skills
  • Knowledge of radio communication systems, email, telephone, and other office applications
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluency in both English and Swahili is required
  • Knowledge of French and Spanish is an added advantage
