The Assistant Commercial Officer II (Travel and Ticket Examiner) position is offered by Shirika la Reli Tanzania (TRC), a government institution responsible for the management and operation of railway transport services in Tanzania. The role is focused on supporting passenger train operations by ensuring proper ticket compliance, crew discipline, and smooth coordination of boarding and train movements. The employer is recruiting qualified candidates to strengthen service delivery and operational efficiency within its passenger rail services.
This position is available for five (5) posts, with the application period running from 19/05/2026 to 01/06/2026. The role requires individuals who can work in a structured transport environment, ensuring accuracy in ticket verification, assisting in passenger management, and supporting train operational coordination between stations and control offices.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Assisting in ensuring all train crews report to duty on time and are properly dressed in clean, complete uniforms
- Conducting random inspections of passenger tickets to confirm validity of tickets, cards, free passes, or vouchers according to the class of travel
- Assisting in monitoring early train marshalling and passenger boarding processes
- Supporting monitoring of loading and offloading of parcels and luggage at intermediate and depot stations to reduce unnecessary train delays
- Liaising with Station Masters and District Control Officers to arrange relief locomotives in case of engine failure en route or at originating stations
- Performing any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications required:
- Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration (Marketing specialization), or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
- Must have completed a Train Guard Certificate course from TIRTEC
- Computer literacy is mandatory
Remuneration is according to the TRCS 3 salary scale.
