Location: Mnazi Bay-Msimbati-Mtwara
Reports to: WNE Manager
Site Waste Supervisor’s core competencies and Skills
- Operational & Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of waste collection methods, sorting and recycling protocols, and disposal procedures.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Strict adherence to Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) principles, environmental regulations, and emergency response protocols.
- Leadership and People Management: Ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate staff, manage performance, and handle conflict resolution.
- Logistics and Planning: Proficient in routing software and scheduling to optimize fleet efficiency, including tracking route assignments and managing daily operations.
- Communication and Public Relations: Effective verbal/written skills to interact with the public, address complaints, and liaise with stakeholders.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) for tracking productivity, Collection and transportation data.
- Problem-Solving: Strong decision-making abilities to handle unexpected situations like waste spillage, staffing shortages.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily waste management operations, ensuring compliance with local regulations and project plans
- Train and supervise waste handling staff on segregation, storage, and disposal procedures
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor waste management practices
- Maintain accurate records of waste generation, storage, and disposal
- Coordinate with TMHS waste team, contractors, clients, and regulatory authorities on waste issues
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Education background: Have educational background in Environmental related filed (Degree-Masters added advantage)
- Experience: Several years of experience in refuse collection, transportation, or similar, with demonstrated supervisory experience (Construction/drilling waste management added advantage)
- Physical Ability: Ability to perform inspections in varied weather conditions, which may include occasional heavy lifting
- Knowledge of local waste regulations and best practices
- Residence: Mtwara region residence and preferably originating from Mtwara District Council
2. Site Waste Attendant job description
Location: Mnazi Bay-Msimbati-Mtwala
Reports to: WNE Manager
Site Waste Attendants core competencies and Skills
- Waste Identification and Sorting: Ability to do identification, categorization/Sorting, segregation, collection, labelling, and documentation of all generated waste streams according to environmental regulations.
- Safety and Regulatory Compliance: Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) taking respective precautionary measures.
- Customer Service and Communication: Assisting with the loading, explaining collection programs, enforcing environmental management site rules in a courteous manner, and providing directions.
- Record Keeping and Administration: Ability to manage collection and, weighing services
- Physical Stamina and Manual Labor: Ability to lift up to 50 Kgs, work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain), and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Site Maintenance: General housekeeping tasks, including clearing litter, sweeping, and maintaining overall site cleanness
Key Duties:
- Sort and segregate waste into designated bins (recyclables, hazardous, general)
- Collect waste to storage areas
- Maintain cleanliness of waste storage areas and surroundings
- Assist in implementing waste loading and offloading initiatives
- Report waste-related issues or concerns to supervisor
- Follow safety protocols when managing waste at the site
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education:Basic education (Form IV/VI certificate preferred)
- Experience:Prior experience in waste management, heavy equipment operation, or customer-facing roles.
- Residence: Mtwara region residence and preferably originating from Mtwara District Council and specifically Mnazi bay/Msimbati area.
