VSO is an international development organization that works through volunteers and partnerships to create sustainable change in communities around the world. The organization focuses on improving livelihoods, promoting inclusion, strengthening education and health systems, and supporting vulnerable populations through community-centered development programs and capacity-building initiatives.
VSO is currently inviting applications from qualified and passionate candidates for the position of Business Adviser – National Volunteer based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The role is designed to support entrepreneurship, inclusive economic development, and sustainable business initiatives targeting youth, women, and underserved communities within project implementation areas.
The Business Adviser will provide strategic and technical support to entrepreneurship and enterprise development initiatives with a focus on green businesses, youth-led enterprises, women-led businesses, and blue economy interventions. The role aims to strengthen local enterprises, promote sustainable economic opportunities, and contribute to inclusive community development and economic empowerment.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic and technical support to strengthen green entrepreneurship initiatives
- Supporting inclusive enterprise development programs and sustainable business growth
- Supporting blue economy sector interventions and related enterprise activities
- Supporting youth-led enterprises and entrepreneurial development initiatives
- Supporting women-led businesses and economic empowerment programs
- Supporting community-based economic development initiatives within project target areas
- Contributing to entrepreneurship and business development initiatives in local communities
- Supporting youth and women entrepreneurs through advisory and mentorship services
- Promoting environmentally sustainable business practices and green enterprise models
- Enhancing enterprise development within the blue economy sector
- Building capacity of local enterprises, start-ups, and small businesses
- Supporting inclusive economic growth and sustainable livelihoods within project communities
The ideal candidate should possess strong experience in enterprise development, entrepreneurship support, and community-based economic empowerment programs. Applicants are expected to demonstrate mentoring, coaching, and advisory skills while supporting sustainable and inclusive business growth initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements include:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in business development, entrepreneurship support, enterprise development, or related projects and programs
- Experience working in a similar advisory or business support role
- Experience supporting youth-led start-ups and entrepreneurial initiatives
- Experience supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
- Experience supporting community-based businesses and local economic initiatives
- Strong mentoring, coaching, and capacity-building skills
- Good understanding of entrepreneurship development strategies
- Good understanding of enterprise growth and sustainability strategies
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to support inclusive and community-focused economic development initiatives
General Conditions include:
- The position is offered on a full-time national volunteer basis
- The duty station is Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
