Full Job Description

The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) is a government institution established under the Atomic Energy Act No. 7 of 2003 (Cap. 188). It is responsible for regulating the safe and peaceful use of atomic energy and nuclear technology in Tanzania, ensuring protection of workers, patients, the public, and the environment from harmful effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. The Commission also ensures compliance with established safety standards while promoting the application of nuclear science for national development.

In addition to its regulatory mandate, TAEC promotes the development and application of nuclear technology in key sectors such as health, agriculture, industry, and research. The Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified, self-motivated, and hardworking Tanzanians to apply for volunteering opportunities in various technical and administrative areas aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and service delivery.

The Office Management Secretary II will be responsible for providing secretarial, administrative, and clerical support to ensure smooth office operations within the Commission. The role involves handling correspondence, maintaining records, managing office communication, and supporting senior officers in daily administrative tasks to enhance efficiency and organization.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Typing, formatting, and processing official documents, letters, and reports
  • Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails and physical mail
  • Maintaining proper filing systems and ensuring safe custody of office records
  • Scheduling appointments, meetings, and maintaining office calendars
  • Taking dictation using shorthand and transcribing accurately in English and Kiswahili
  • Operating office equipment and supporting general administrative duties

Qualifications include:

  • Diploma in Secretarial Studies from a recognized institution
  • Must have passes in shorthand (English) and Hati Mkato (Kiswahili) at a speed of 100 wpm
  • Proficiency in computer applications including MS Word, MS Excel, Internet Email, and MS Publisher
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Good computer literacy and ability to work in a professional office environment

General Conditions include:

  • Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Must submit a signed handwritten application letter in English
  • Must attach an updated CV with reliable contacts and three referees (one academic referee required)
  • Must provide certified copies of academic certificates, transcripts (if applicable), Form IV and VI certificates, and National ID/NIDA
  • Testimonials, result slips, and partial transcripts are not accepted
  • Foreign qualifications must be verified by TCU, NACTE, or NECTA
  • Must attach a recent passport-size photograph and a letter of residence from Village/Street Executive Officer
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews at zonal centers
  • Volunteers will receive allowances for transport and lunch, not salaries
  • Volunteering does not guarantee future employment
