The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) is a bi-national railway organization jointly owned by the Governments of Tanzania and Zambia. It is responsible for operating and maintaining the railway line between the two countries and plays a key role in regional trade, transport, and economic integration. As part of strengthening its corporate communications and public engagement functions, TAZARA is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced professional for the position of Public Relations Officer based in Dar es Salaam.
The Public Relations Officer will support the implementation of TAZARA’s corporate communication and public relations functions. The role focuses on media engagement, stakeholder communication, brand management, and information dissemination aimed at enhancing the organization’s public image and visibility.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinating media relations activities and ensuring accurate, timely, and professional dissemination of information to the public and stakeholders.
- Drafting and distributing, upon approval, press releases, speeches, feature articles, public notices, newsletters, and other communication materials in line with corporate standards.
- Monitoring media coverage and public opinion relating to TAZARA and preparing analytical reports, briefs, and recommended responses where necessary.
- Supporting the implementation of corporate branding, marketing, publicity, and stakeholder engagement programmes across the organization’s operational regions.
- Coordinating public events including exhibitions, trade fairs, media briefings, official visits, and corporate social responsibility activities.
- Managing digital communication platforms, including social media channels and online engagement initiatives.
- Maintaining effective relationships with government institutions, media houses, customers, development partners, and other stakeholders.
- Supporting crisis communication processes by assisting in timely and coordinated responses during operational disruptions or incidents.
- Ensuring consistent application of TAZARA’s corporate identity and communication standards across all regions.
- Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification and Experience
Applicants must possess:
- A Form IV/VI Secondary Education Certificate.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communication, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in public relations, media relations, or stakeholder engagement.
- Age not above 45 years.
- Strong proficiency in digital communication tools, social media management, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle crisis communication situations.
- Postgraduate qualifications will be considered an added advantage.
- Knowledge of graphic design and multimedia tools will be an added advantage.
