As part of its continued commitment to operational excellence and sound financial management, the company is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced professional for the position of Chief Accountant.

The Chief Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the treasury function, managing credit control operations, improving accounting systems, and providing accurate financial information to support management decision-making. The role requires a strategic and detail-oriented finance professional capable of ensuring effective financial performance, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Reviewing weekly and monthly performance reports of MCL and providing financial advice to management accordingly.
• Forecasting cash requirements and advising management on the investment of surplus funds.
• Conducting staff appraisals, identifying training needs, and developing training programmes to enhance staff skills and performance.
• Approving payment requests and facilitating timely processing of payments.
• Recommending appropriate credit limits and approval of customer account openings.
• Monitoring customer performance to ensure compliance with approved credit terms and policies.
• Ensuring completeness and accuracy of revenue by comparing marketing statistics with financial information.
• Reviewing SAP system performance and continuously recommending system improvements.
• Resolving outstanding SAP system issues in collaboration with Information Technology and Circulation technical teams.
• Reviewing and consolidating the performance of divisions and subsidiaries while highlighting areas of concern to management.
• Preparing audit information for MCL audits and responding to audit queries in a timely manner.
• Liaising with tax consultants to resolve pending tax matters and ensure full tax compliance.

Qualification and Experience

Applicants must possess:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification.
• A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant working experience in accounting, finance, or treasury management.
