Job Description
Hannah Bennie School (HBS) was established to provide children in Kigamboni with access to high-quality English-medium education close to home. To lead its transport operations, HBS is seeking an experienced and highly organized Transport Manager to oversee the school’s transportation network, fleet management, and transport personnel. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of students, maintaining regulatory compliance, optimizing transport resources, and delivering a high standard of service to parents and stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, schedule, and supervise the daily operation of all school buses across pickup and drop-off routes
- Design, evaluate, and continuously optimize bus routes, stops, and timetables to maximize safety, efficiency, and travel time effectiveness
- Oversee the school bus fleet, ensuring proper preventive maintenance, fuel management, and vehicle roadworthiness
- Supervise, train, and evaluate bus drivers, bus attendants, and transport support staff
- Manage staff schedules, leave planning, shift assignments, and replacement arrangements
- Ensure full compliance with LATRA, SUMATRA, traffic, and child-safety regulations applicable to school transportation
- Manage student transport registers, parent communications, transport requests, and incident reporting procedures
- Coordinate emergency response activities, vehicle breakdown management, and contingency transportation arrangements
- Manage relationships with fuel suppliers, maintenance providers, insurers, and spare-parts vendors
- Prepare and manage the transport budget while monitoring route costs, fuel consumption, and maintenance expenditures
- Utilize GPS and fleet-tracking systems to monitor vehicle locations, speed, route adherence, and driver performance in real time
- Develop policies, procedures, and performance standards that enhance transportation safety and operational efficiency
- Prepare transport performance reports and recommendations for management review
Qualification Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Diploma from VETA in Transport Management, Logistics, or a related discipline is an added advantage
- At least seven years of experience in transport and logistics management, preferably within school transportation, passenger transport, or fleet operations
- Strong knowledge of school bus operations, child safeguarding practices, fleet management, and LATRA/SUMATRA regulatory requirements
- Proven leadership and team management experience
- Advanced proficiency in fleet management systems, GPS-tracking platforms, and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong planning, analytical, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to safety
