Job Description

The Technician 2, Exploration – Drilling position supports geological and geotechnical exploration programmes by ensuring drilling activities, field investigations, and Core Yard operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards. The role contributes to the collection of high-quality geological data that supports exploration success and future mining development.

Responsibilities

• Promote health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance by conducting toolbox meetings, identifying workplace hazards, and implementing appropriate control measures
• Carry out geological field mapping and assist with rock sampling and accurate geological data collection, including GPS recording
• Supervise drill site preparation and guide Technician 1 personnel to ensure drilling platforms and access roads meet required standards, including steep terrain procedures
• Monitor drilling operations by documenting diamond core recovery and ensuring high-quality reverse circulation (RC) sampling practices
• Verify drilling rig setup, collar alignment, and compliance with drilling specifications
• Conduct geotechnical logging and oversee Core Yard operations to maintain quality geological records
• Coordinate sample collection, preparation, and dispatch for laboratory analysis
• Keep project geologists informed of drilling progress, operational challenges, and field observations
• Support ground geophysical surveys and perform quality control on downhole survey activities
• Communicate deviations from exploration plans and recommend corrective actions where necessary
• Coach and mentor junior staff while promoting safe work practices and stopping unsafe work when required

Qualifications Required

• Good computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience in exploration drilling operations, geological fieldwork, and geotechnical logging
• Knowledge of field data collection and geological sampling techniques
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Leadership ability to supervise and coordinate small field teams
• Good organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
