The Steward position is an important role within the Stewarding department, responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in kitchen and dining areas. The successful candidate will support kitchen operations by ensuring that equipment, utensils, and workspaces are clean, organized, and ready for efficient food service operations.
Responsibilities
The Steward will be responsible for ensuring cleanliness and sanitation throughout the kitchen and dining areas while supporting daily food service operations. The role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and dining areas
- Wash, clean, and properly store kitchen equipment and utensils after use
- Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing food supplies and inventory
- Support kitchen and dining operations during meal service periods
- Ensure all work areas comply with hygiene and food safety standards
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness in storage areas and food preparation areas
- Dispose of waste appropriately and maintain proper waste management procedures
- Support kitchen staff with operational tasks as assigned
- Ensure cleaning materials and equipment are properly used and stored
- Adhere to all hotel safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures
Qualification
Candidates applying for this role should possess relevant academic qualifications and practical experience in hospitality operations. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong teamwork skills, customer service orientation, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Relevant Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, or professional qualification related to Hospitality, Food Production, or a related field
- Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of experience in a reputable hotel, lodge, restaurant, or hospitality establishment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service orientation
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of hospitality industry standards and procedures
- Fluency in English language communication
- Knowledge of additional languages will be an added advantage
- Computer literacy for applicable duties
- Strong teamwork, organizational, and time management skills
