Full Job Description

Staff Controller – Ports and Terminals at DP World is a full-time position based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The role focuses on maintaining operational duty rosters, updating leave records, coordinating manpower allocation, and supporting operational employees through transactional HR activities. The Staff Controller also ensures employees work safely according to operational plans and company procedures while supporting efficiency, workforce productivity, and zero incident targets within terminal operations.

The successful candidate will work closely with operations teams, HR departments, and planning units to ensure smooth coordination of staff schedules, attendance management, overtime tracking, leave monitoring, and manpower allocation. The role also involves maintaining accurate workforce records and ensuring compliance with labour regulations, company procedures, and safety standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Receiving and reviewing daily operational staff schedules
  • Updating employee time records in the Time & Attendance System
  • Maintaining accurate attendance and working hours records
  • Preparing monthly overtime and working hours reports
  • Preparing absenteeism and sick leave reports for management
  • Updating sick leave records in the LRS and Time & Attendance systems
  • Verifying medical receipts and maintaining medical bill records
  • Maintaining personnel files and documentation for easy reference
  • Responding to employee queries in a timely and effective manner
  • Coordinating with operations planning teams for daily manpower allocation
  • Ensuring newly recruited employees are included in daily rosters
  • Monitoring annual, local, emergency, and sick leave requests
  • Maintaining non-system records including files and Excel databases
  • Ensuring compliance with labour laws related to working hours and overtime
  • Monitoring labour costs within approved budgets
  • Preparing manpower allocation for third-party labour providers such as SUMA JKT
  • Supervising workforce deployment according to operational demands

Requirements include:

  • Knowledge of terminal operations and port activities
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operations
  • Good understanding of workplace safety procedures
  • Strong verbal communication skills, especially with operational staff and equipment operators
  • Leadership skills to manage and coordinate large teams
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in workforce planning, operations, or staff management
  • Understanding of employee allocation and rostering systems
  • Experience working with roster systems or equipment allocation systems
  • Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities
  • Goal-oriented and achievement-focused attitude
